"Saachi! There you are, pretending to be all innocent, digging in the dirt like nothing's happened! How dare you?!" Aayti said furiously and entered in the garden
"Aunty, I don't know what you're talking about." Saachi asked and she forgot about the book."Of course, you don’t! Because conveniently forgetting your sins is your talent, isn't it?" Aayti mocked.
"Aayti, calm down. Let’s talk—" Dhani tries to make her understand.
"Stay out of this, Dhani! You don’t know what she’s done! You’ve no idea what this—this traitor is capable of!" She snapped on Dhani.
"Choti maa, maybe this isn't right—" Avdhaan tries to interrupt.
"No! Everyone needs to hear this. Saachi doesn’t deserve anyone’s sympathy. She’s a liar, a backstabber!" Aayti made him shut up and spoke."You know exactly what I’m talking about, right? You, Saachi, were the one who ditched me at the last minute with the book submission! That book was my life’s work, my chance to finally make it big in New York. Do you know what happened because of you? They blacklisted me! Me and my famous publishing house. Do you have any idea what that feels like?!" Aayti said in an angry voice.
"I never meant for that to happen—" Saachi whispered calmly while remembering everything.
"Don’t you dare say you didn’t mean it! You didn’t even have the decency to own up to it. You left me humiliated, ruined my reputation! And you think you can sit here and plant flowers like none of it matters?" Aayti again cut her words off in the middle and said. She was not in the mood of letting anyone speak.
"Aayti, please—"
"I said shut up, Dhani! Don’t try to defend her. She doesn’t deserve it!" Aayti showed her finger and this time Dhani went inside the mansion in anger."I’m sorry. I truly am. But—" Saachi looked up at Aayti whose eyes were glistening.
"Sorry?! Your sorry won’t bring back my reputation, Saachi! And it won’t bring back Isha either!" Aayti cuts her off again.
“You are such a grim. Today if Isha is not here then it is because of you. She’s dead because of you, Saachi! And now you think you can make it better by—what? Marrying my son? You think you can replace her?" She literally wants to at least slap her today.
"I didn’t—" Saachi visibly shaken, her voice breaking.
"You didn’t what? You didn’t ruin everything? You didn’t steal my son’s future? You didn’t destroy my family’s happiness? What didn’t you do, Saachi?!"
"You’re a disgrace, Saachi. A manipulative, selfish—" Aayti was spitting venom today."Enough, Aunty. You’ve said what you needed to say. I understand your anger, your pain. But I’m not going to stand here and let you tear me apart without hearing my side of the story." Saachi tries to say her voice steady despite her trembling hands.
"Your side? What side could you possibly have, Saachi?!" Aayti sneered.
"I made mistakes, yes. But I didn’t kill Isha. And I didn’t ruin your career intentionally. Believe what you want, Aayti, but you don’t get to define who I am. Not anymore." Saachi said calmly but her voice was formed.Aayti is stunned into silence for a moment, then scoffs "You think you’re so righteous. But one day, everyone will see you for what you really are."
"Maybe they will. Until then, I’ll carry this burden. Alone, if I must." Saachi turning away, her voice soft
The garden fell silent, the tension thick in the air. Aayti stormed off, her anger still palpable, while Saachi quietly returned to her room. The others exchanged uneasy glances, unsure of what to say.
