Osiris is a transgender man starting at a new school several months into the school year. Everyone thinks he is weird until he runs into the it girl on campus. Now he must navigate the maze of friendships, new feelings, an ex, and his secret.
Once I reach the office, I knock on the door. "Enter" I hear a male voice. I enter to see a guy sitting behind the desk. "I just wanted to formally welcome you to Southgate Academy" the principal says, "My name's Principal Rollins." "Uh hi" I say. "Osiris Kreed, let's cut to the chase" Principal Rollins says, "You don't want to be here, in the principal's office but I will not take no for an answer. Your parents told me about the situation at your old school, so I just wanted to see how you were adjusting." "Good" I say, "Everythings fine." "That's good to hear" Principal Rollins says, "You making friends? How did basketball tryouts go?" "Yeah, with my roommate and his friend group" I say, "I'm the new team captain." "Good, good" Principal Rollins says, "I want you to know that my door is always open to you, for any reason."
"Okay" I say. "Now, at least for the next few months while you're adjusting to this school and leaving your mark here" Principal Rollins says, "I want to meet with you weekly." "Um...okay I guess" I say, "But can I ask why?" "Yes you may" Principal Rollins says, "Just to check in with you, make sure everythings fine and you're not getting bullied and too just talk." "Excellent" Principal Rollins says, "Now why don't you run off, I'm sure you have some sort of plans with your friends." "Yes, that I do" I say. "I look forward to next week" Principal says. "Okay" I say standing up and walking out.
"Well that was something else" I mumble and run into someone. I bend down and help them pick up their things. "I'm so sorry" I say looking up and see that it was the girl I ran into when I first arrived at Southgate Academy, literally. "We need to stop meeting like this" the girl says smiling. "That would probably be for the best" I say smiling back. "What is going-" Principal Rollins says opening the door and sees us, "Oh, I see you're making friends of the opposite sex, all of that sexual tension. The whole highschool experience but keep it clean. Remember abstinence is key, abstinence is the best way to not...is to not. Have fun." He then walks back into his office.
"What..." I say looking at the principal's closed door in confusion and the girl just laughs, "Uh right, here are your things." I hand the girl her things and we stand up. "I see you've met the principal" the girl says. "That was...something" I say, "Is he always like that?" "Believe it or not, that was actually him being rude" the girl says, "Since we keep running into each other, I should probably introduce myself, I'm Yelena Pollard." "Nice to meet you Yelena" I say, "I'm Osiris Kreed, but I should probably get going." "It was nice seeing you again" Yelena says, "Hopefully we run into each other again." "But not literally" I say. "Hopefully not literally" Yelena says.
I begin to walk away when a thought occurs to me, "Oh um, do you by chance know of anywhere on campus to grab a decent bite of food?" "There's Gatorville" Yelena says, "That's the best place on campus. And the most popular. It's right by the main entrance." "Thanks" I say and walk off. My sisters are planning on visiting this week and I needed to figure out a place to meet up at. I pull out my phone and text Kali the meet up place and tell them to meet me for lunch. When I reach my room, the door is locked once again. Of course it is, so I head to the gym to get some extra practice in. I practice my shots from different spots on the court and a few dribbling drills while I wait for the gym and locker room to clear.
After a few hours, it's just me and I call it a day, heading into the locker room and take a quick shower. I then head to the cafeteria and grab some dinner while I study up on the material. I then walk out to the quad to get some privacy and call my mother. "Osiris hi" mom says, "How are you? Is everything okay?" "Did you make the team" Kali asks. "I'm doing good, just finished eating dinner and going over everything for class" I say, "I made the team." I hear cheering in the background and a bunch of congratulations. "Congrats baby" mom says, "That was your sisters, their girlfriends, dad, Waylon, and Derek." "Thanks guys" I say, "Just wanted to call to let you know the good news and that I was fine." "All right, take care of yourself" mom says, "We love you Osiris." "Love you guys too" I say, "Bye." Everyone says bye and I hang up heading back to my room.
The door is unlocked and when I enter, I see that the room is empty. "Figures" I mutter as I get ready for bed and call it a night. I wake up to my alarm and get ready for my morning jog. I get back from my jog, freshly showered to see Liam gone. I grab my bag and head down to the cafeteria for breakfast. Once I have my breakfast, I find an empty table and sit down. A few minutes later Liam and his friends join me. "Can I help you" I ask. "Actually you can" Liam says. "What is it" I ask. "I don't know who you think you are but you need to learn your place" Liam says, "I'm the king of this school and that captain's title is mine so you need to pretend to be bad so that I can reclaim my rightful title." "I earned the captain title fair and square" I say, "And why would I do anything nice for you? You've been treating me like shit since I transferred to this school."
"Because he told you too weirdo" Rodrigo says. "This is your only warning, if you think your life is terrible right now, I can make it so much worse for you" Liam says getting up in my face, "Comprende? Let's go guys." Liam and his friends leave and claim another table. "Asshole" I say as I continue to eat my breakfast. "Mind if we join you" Yelena asks walking over with another girl. "It's a free country and this isn't my table" I say. Yelena and the girl sit down, "This is Piper, my best friend and this is Osiris." "Hi" Piper says smiling, "It's nice to meet you." "How are you liking school" Yelena asks. "It's school so..." I say, "But so far it's a little better than my last school." "That's good" Yelena says as the bell rings, "Well, I'll see you in fourth." "Cya" I say standing up and heading to first period.
