I walk over to the front desk, "Uh hi...hello, I'm Osiris and I'm new here." "Yes, we've been expecting you" the receptionist says. She walks to the back and returns a minute later with a few papers. She then grabs a few other papers from her desk and hands the papers to me. "There's a map of the school, your schedule, extra curricular activities, room number, list of the rules, and a copy of the student handbook" the receptionist says and hands me a key, "Here's a key to your room, don't lose it. You start Monday at eight am so use the weekend to get familiar with the school and get settled in. Have a good day." The receptionist then goes back to whatever she was working on on her computer.
"What a lovely welcome" I mumble as I walk out of the front office. I look to see what room I am in and then check the map to see where it is located. Looks like the dorms are on the other side of the school. I make my way across campus in search of the dorms. As I walk towards the dorms, I notice the other students looking and watching me. I look down at the ground in discomfort, as my insecurities creep into my mind from what happened at my old school. I shake my head and take a deep breath, pushing those memories to the back of my mind, not wanting to relive or remember what happened.
After taking a wrong turn, I find my dorm after fifteen minutes. I open the door and enter, looking around trying to find a sign to tell me where my room is. I head down the hall after locating a sign. What's the point of separate dorms if anyone can walk in? At that point you might as well make the dorms coed. A minute later I arrived at my room. I go to unlock the door when I hear a bunch of shouting. Well looks like I'll be meeting my roommate and his friends right now. Please don't be assholes or douchebags like my last friends, please let them be cool and friendly. Hell, at this point I won't care if they ignore me and don't talk to me as long as they aren't jerks like my last friends. I take a deep breath opening the door and entering the room.
I see five guys, three of them playing on an xbox and the other two tossing a tiny basketball into a tiny hoop hanging on a door. There is one guy laying on the bed only wearing a pair of jeans, a guy standing next to the mini hoop wearing a sleeveless shirt and jeans, and the three playing the game all wearing letterman jackets. "Uh hi" I say catching all of their attention as five pairs of eyes look over at me. The guy laying on the bed stands up and eyes me up and down, "Who are you?" "Oh right...I'm uh Osiris" I say as I awkwardly smile at them. "So why the hell are you in my room" the guy asks crossing his arms. "I'm uh...I'm your new roommate" I say nervously looking down at the ground. This is not the first start I wanted. "Oh" the guy says, "Hi I guess."
This is going terribly. I place my bags down on the ground and start getting situated. "So what sports do you guys play" I ask trying to start a conversation. "We are all on the basketball team" the guy says. "Oh nice. I play too" I say. "Didn't ask" the guy says. "Right..." I say biting my lip and looking down. "Your new roommate is weird" sleeveless shirt says. I sigh as I try not to let them get to me and push the memories to the back of my mind. Maybe I should just call mom and dad and have them take me home and re-enroll me at my old school, at least there I have my best friend, my two sisters, and their girlfriends. "Come on guys" letterman two says, "Play nice." "Sorry...what was it, Oscar" the guy asks. "It's Osiris" I say. "Right Osiris, sorry. I'm Liam, I'm the point guard" Liam says pointing at sleeveless shirt, "That's Rodrigo."
"Hey" Rodrigo says, "I'm the center." "Then you have Tucker the power forward, Zaydon the small forward" Liam says, "And finally Geoff the shooting guard." "Sorry about them" Zaydon, the one who spoke up earlier says. "What position do you play" Geoff asks who is sitting on Zaydon's right. "Uh at my old school I was the point guard" I say, "When are tryouts?" "On Monday" Liam says, "All right, mine and Rodrigo's turn." They start a new game and ignore me. Cool, that's...cool. Not great, but that could have gone a lot worse. Maybe I just need to give them space and try again later. Or I probably shouldn't bother, they seem indifferent about me. This sucks.
