It is amazing how easily something can break. A simple, sudden change can through everything off course. Nothing is perfect forever, although it may appear that way. I threw a rock into the water, destroying the smooth surface of the river and sending ripples outwards leading to nowhere." Are you okay Jade?" Indigo questioned. " Yes just lost in thought." I replied. " Oh well in that case....." She squealed and splashed a ginormous amount of water at me. My hair clumped into a ginormous knot."Jeez" I cried " Why on earth did you do that?" " You're too serious" she laughed " Come on your brother will be expecting you home soon." So that ended the trip to the river and we climbed up onto her beat up hover bike. It is probably the oldest model, but it works and I never have had any better ideas. I heard a sputter of the engine and the thing roared to life. "Hold on!" she yelled over the loud sound of the motor. I held on in fear of what happened in a prior experience. That was a little bit difficult to explain afterwards. We rushed down the streets and past sidewalks until we finally got to my apartment building. I thanked Indigo for the great time and the ride and went inside the lobby. I again heard the roar of her engine as she took off towards her apartment farther downtown. I said hello to Gyra ,the lady at the front desk ,and slid my key card into the elevator. I got into the elevator and counted the dings of the bells as we went up to the 56th floor. 56 out of 105 floors was not all that impressive but it was better than being on the ground floor levels with the attacks recently. I walked through the hallway until I reached door. I took a deep breath before I entered. The smell of clean sheets and freshly dried laundry filled my nose. My brother was home and he was working with his clothes like always. I entered and found him folding up the garments from his last project and putting them in a suit case. He was going to a college where he had a opportunity to do something he loved and I was excited for him but I was going to miss him very badly. He practically raised me with my mom at the clinic. I don't know how me and my mom will manage without him. "Hey Adrian" I said " What cha doing?" "I am finishing packing up, I leave tomorrow you know." He replied. I looked at him with wet eyes. "I have a present for you." He said softly. Adrian always said that when I was upset. He quickly ran over to his trunk and pulled out a soft green dress that shimmered down to at least the height of my ankles. "Oh my gosh Adrian, you don't have to do that, it is part of your collection." I said unable to control my tears. I knew how special his clothes were to him. "It is nothing" he smiled at me. "Once I finish up I am going with Raven to her apartment. I will be back soon, ok?" I felt guilty that I thought I could be around my brother the entire time he was here. Of course Raven would want to see him before he left. "Don't worry about it... I will help you pack." Once we had finished Adrian slipped away to call Raven to let her know he was ready. I sat there trying to figure out if I should just go to bed or finish up some work from the education department. I had just started a small article when the doorbell buzzed and my eyes met with deep indigo ones. Raven walked in with her silvery blonde hair flowing behind her like a cape. I always have thought it was strange how she dyed the ends of her hair a lime green. Nothing about her seemed to reflect upon that color but she has kept it that way since I met her first three years ago. We greeted each other and made small talk. When Raven announced that they should probably get going, I hugged them both good bye and they slipped out the door careful not to wake the people who lived in the apartments next to us. After about an hour I got a phone call. It was from my mother. She never called, something must be wrong. I answered with a sweaty hand. "Hello, is this Jade?" "Yes it is." She said something in a shaky voice that I could not comprehend. I paused and let it soak in. Then it struck me, I couldn't breathe, pure panic smashed my wind pipes. My vision went fuzzy. "dear lord no, are you serious" "Get over here now."
