chapter 18

Its been 6 months since I've moved in with Leslie and its been everything I've hoped for, except we're missing something... We were waiting in Marys living room with Bobby.  He hasn't left Mary's side since the day they met.  "She is soo slow..." he whined.  "She's a girly girl.  She always takes forever," LEslie said.  FInally, Mary came down stairs.  "Alright, lets go eat!" she said.  We reached the restaurant and all sat down.  "So, why are we at such a nice little place?" Mary asked us.  I looked at Leslie and we smiled at each other.  We had been hiding a secret for the past 4 months and are finally ready to come clean.  "We have some news we want to tell you two," I said.  "And what is that?" she asked sipping a glass of wine.  "We're pregnant!!" Leslie squealled.  "How the hell is that possible?? YOu are both females.  NO penis!!" Mary spat.  "Well, we have been to several fertility clinics and found one we wanted.  We chose the donor and wanted to wait a couple months to make sure you know.. She could carry," I said. 

  "Martha, I don't think you two know what you're getting yourselves into.  This is a child, not a pet," she said.  I grew upset with Mary.  "We know the difference thank you very much.  We know exactly what we want," I said.  "Well, I'm happy for you two. Congradualtions!!"  Bobby said.  "What will other parents say when their child is in school with yours that has two mommies?? Are you prepared for the critisim??" Mary asked.  "Mary, I took the critisism my family and community.  I think I can handle some strangers," I reminded her.  "Well, why did you choose Leslie??" she asked.  "Because she wanted to carry the baby," I said raising an eyebrow at her.  "I think it's weird.  YOu should be carrying the baby.  You're the one that is use to mother hood stuff," she said.  I sighed and said, "Does it really matter??? Can't you just be happy for us??"  "I am!! I am happy for you guys.. I Jsut don't wanna see you two or the baby hurt.. That's all," she said.

  "Well, he or she will have two badass mommies and a crazy aunt to help kick peoples asses," I said smiling.  "Aww.. So, you wanting a boy or girl?" she aksed.  "Well. I'm wanting a boy and she's wanting a girl," I said.  Mary laughed and said, "You can't decide on one thing together can you?"  "We do too!  Just this one has us arguing.  We find out next montht the sex.  We want you two to be there when we do," Leslie said with a soft smile.  Bobby answered, "We'd be glad to come with you guys."  We ate our lobster and headed back to the house.  Bobby text us and it said: PULLING INTO THE GARDENS FOLLOW.  "what the heck is he doing?" Leslie asked.  I smirked and new exactly what he was doing.  We pulled in behind him and when we were all outside of the car. Leslie and Mary looked confused.  "What are we doing here?" she asked.  "I wanted you guys to see something.  You'll love it, I promise," he said.  We followed him downt the trail into an open field by a pond.  THe full moon glowed magnificantly on the lake.

  "This is beautiful Bobby.  How did you know about this?" Mary asked.  "Well, I've been searchign high and low for places for some place special.  I've searched from here to a few towns over.  I wanted this to be perfect.  NOw, that I found it what better way than with Leslie and Martha here?" he said.  "Bobby, you have us all friggin' confused," she said irritated.  HE got down on one knee and pulled out a little jewlery box.  "Mary, I love you with all my heart.  I have grown to love such an amazing woman in just a few months and I know what I want to do.  I want to spend the rest of my life with you.  Mary, will you marry me?" he said.  Mary gasped and started bawling and all she could do was nod vigoriously. "Ahhh!!! Congradulations!!!" Leslie screamed with excitement and ran over and hugged Mary.  "You knew about this didn't you?" She asked me.  I shrugged and said, "He needed some girly advice from somewhrere right?  I didn't know he'd do it tonight or where.  I just guessed when we pulled in.  It's an amazing spot too!"  "We're all going to be one big happy family," Mary said.  "Yes, we are.  We proved all of them wrong.  THe real world isn't so cruel after all.  Hey, how about we send them a post card for christmas??" I laughed.  We all walked back to our cars and headed home with big grins looking forward to the near futures that laid ahead of us.
