"You seen my other hoop?" Ayleks asked, crawling halfway under the motel bed, her lashes hanging on for dear life.

"You dropped it in the bathroom when you were doing your edges," I said, tossing it to her.

She caught it mid-air with a grin. "Ayyy. You tryna look cute too, or you just wearin' your go-to Adam Sandler fit?" she teased.

I rolled my eyes, looking at my reflection in the mirror. Black hoodie. True Religion shorts. Bare face. Messy bun. I wasn't gonna try too much.

"I ain't tryna impress nobody," I mumbled.

"Mmmhm," she hummed, popping in the second hoop. "Not even Jah?"

I didn't answer.

Buzz.

My phone lit up next to the sink.

I tried to hold in my smile

I tried to hold in my smile.

"Speak of the devil," Ayleks smirked. "That him?"

"He said he's riding with us,"

"Ouuu, and he chose a ride with you over going with all his friends? Sis..." She said like it was facts. "That man is tryna have a moment."

"Or maybe he just don't feel like being cramped in the car with all of them for an hour."

She snorted. "Nah, he tryna have some alone time with you. Don't play dumb."

I tried not to smile. "You riding with Trippie still?"

"Hell yeah," she said, checking her lip gloss in the mirror. "Man smell like Backwoods and anxiety. Just my type."

We both laughed. Outside, I could already hear Ski yelling across the lot and bass shaking from someone's car. This was about to be something.

She slung her bag over her shoulder and headed for the door. "I'll meet y'all there. Don't do nothin' freaky in the back seat."

"Girl, bye." I rolled my eyes.

"Bye lover girllll."

The door slammed behind her, leaving me alone in the room. I looked around to make sure we weren't leaving anything behind.

Then, my phone lit up. Jah texted, saying he was waiting outside.

I replied saying I was on my way down.

The wind hit me first when I opened the motel room door. Miami heat, humid and thick, even as the sun started to dip low. The parking lot was full of motion, guys tossing bags into the van, DJ Scheme organizing the van, Trippie leaning up against the van while Ayleks laughing at whatever they were talking about, 6ix9ine shirtless for absolutely no reason.
