Chapter 20

“Leigh-Anne?”

“Leave me alone.” Amina sighed. She was starting to wonder if she failed Leigh-Anne as a parent.

“You have to get out of bed. You have responsibilities.”

“No I don't. My wife. . .Actually, I'm single apparently. I dont have anyone to take care of.”

“You need to take Jesy to school. You're not sixteen anymore. You can't just lay in your bed all day and not do anything.”

“Do you want to bet? I'm not getting out of this bed. Get out of my room.”

“Jamie!” She called for her husband So he could handle her.

“I'm here, get up” He put his hand on her waist. He was waiting for this to happen.

“Daddy, please.” She pleaded and Jamie shook his head,pulling the covers off of her. She was still in the same outfit from four days ago.

“This is ridiculous. Get up now and get ready to take your daughter to school.”

“Okay.”

“Do it now” Leigh-Anne sighed but got up and went into her bathroom. Even as an adult she wasn't used to her father's stern tone.

“How come she listens to you and not to me?”

“Because I'm this close to getting my belt.” Jamie told his wife, walking past her to get Jesy up. He was more laid back than Amina but he didn't have half as much patience as her.

“Come on bubba. It's time for school.”

“I'm not going” she frowned, pulling her blankets over her head. He shook his head. She was a little Leigh-Anne. There was no changing her now.  

He pulled the blankets off of her as well.

“Come on, Papa will take you to get some ice cream if you behave yourself.”

“Really?” He nodded and Jesy jumped up hugging him.

“Grandma?” Jade poked her head in Jaminas's room. Amina glanced at Jade through her vanity mirror.

“What's wrong?”

“I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. I didn't want my mama and Mommy to fight because of me. I only took the gun so that they wouldn't pick on me anymore. I wasn't going to hurt anyone.”

“I know but it was incredibly dangerous, Jade. You shouldn't be carrying it around at all. Although it's a BB gun it's still illegal. You can hurt someone with it. Once I get you back in school you had better be on your best behavior. I realized mommy is too soft and lenient and Mama is too tired to discipline the two of you. It's not going to fly anymore, do you understand?”

“Yes ma'am.”

“I'm going to talk to your teachers about the bullies and get it resolved. I'm also going to have a talk with Jesy. As long as you two are living under my room you're going to follow my rules, do you understand?” Jade nodded asking Amina if she could have a hug.

“Of course.” She hugged Jade and kissed her cheek.

“Your mothers Aren't arguing because of you. Don't stress yourself with that. I just want you to focus on school and being a kid, yes?” She nodded once again.

“Alright. You said you wanted to come to work with me?”

“Yes please”

“Go look in Leigh-Anne's closet. Find something formal to wear.” Jade smiled, skipping up to Leigh-Anne's room, raiding her closet.
