The storm outside rattled the shed to an unsettling extent. Drake owned nothing in his tiny enclosed shed, so thankfully there was nothing of worth to get damaged by the brutal onslaught of the weather. However, there was a slight chance the shed could be ripped apart by the frightful gale, though the only concern that caused Drake was that it would be quite nippy without walls.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, Drake lay with his arms folded behind his head. Despite the comfort of his bed, the storm prevented him from slipping into a sleep and so all he could do was stare into the emptiness, as though he were searching through the darkness for his memoires.
A loud thud from the roof of the shed caused the entire structure to tremor, as though some giant monster had chosen to roost on top. Drake assumed that the storm had simply hurled a branch or stone at the roof and so he barely even flinched at the noise.
Creek! Thump! Thump!
Those three sounds caused Drake’s sense to finally kick in and his sudden alarm caused him to sit up right. It sounded as though something was stalking across the roof, searching for a way inside. Drake consider scoping the roof himself, after all, it might have just been a stray cat looking for shelter from the merciless weather. However, he knew the sound was too loud for something as small as a cat.
Crash!
Something pierced through the wall behind Drake, seizing him from behind before dragging him through the wall, causing the wall to shatter as he was thrown through. It felt as though claws had punctured his back, as he felt a sweltering pain where warm blood was trickling down his skin.
With a loud squawk, Drake was hurled through the air before crashing down with a wallop on the grassy plane. The darkness from the inky black clouds had shadowed out the starlight, leaving Drake practically swallowed in shadows. He felt dizzy and he had to shake himself to regain his senses, although still he could not fully identify his assailant.
Standing beside the grand hole in the shed wall was a humanoid figure, clad in darkness to prevent its identity from being revealed. Drake didn’t have to wait long however, as the figure seemed to glide towards him, its features becoming less obscure with each step.
The figure revealed itself to be a young woman, approximately the same age as Drake from what he could tell. She had striking night sky black hair that was only neck length, though it flared out slightly as it neared her shoulders. She was clad in thin leather armour draped over a black tunic, consisting of sturdy shoulder and elbow pads as well as bracers, thigh and shin guards and obviously the main torso breast plate.
Drake saw a slight glimmer of purple light radiate in the darkness, like a deadly poison waiting to torture its victim. He noticed that the attacker’s eyes were pulsing with a dazzling purple light, much brighter and more vibrant than any natural eye colours.
She strutted towards him with the pride of a noble, appearing almost elegant despite the savage circumstances of her approach. Drake gently caressed the wounds that gorged across his bleeding back, baffled by how this woman could possibly have inflicted such beastly wounds. She appeared no more out of the ordinary than any other human, and yet Drake did not doubt she was the source of his wounds.
Picking himself up off the ground, Drake readied himself to face his assailant, yet she did not so much as flinch when he raised his guard. In fact, a subtle smile of delight appeared upon her lips, thrilled by the idea of a duel with Drake.
With a swift movement that Drake could only perceive as a blur, the woman darted towards him with a flying kick towards Drake’s face. Drake unknowingly raised a guard and upon impact he immediately uncurled his arms so that he could seize hold of her leg. Spinning her around like a typhoon, Drake prepared himself to fling her far across the field like a professional hammer thrower. However, Drake was slightly unnerved by her giddy laughter, as though she were a child being swung around playfully by her father. It was then Drake noticed her free leg, however he was too late to react.
