"From now on, I want you to be her personal bodyguard."
I stared at him, stunned by his words. My thoughts raced as I tried to process the magnitude of what he was asking. For a moment, it felt like I had misheard him.
"Me? Are you... sure?" I stammered after regaining some composure, my tone hesitant and incredulous, disbelief evident in my voice.
"Yes," he replied firmly, his gaze steady. "I want you to look after Adeline and remain by her side at all times. Don't worry about your responsibilities as the team leader; you can pass that role to someone you trust. Additionally, your schedule will be entirely separate from the others, designed to ensure you're always available for her." His expression softened momentarily as he turned to smile at his beautiful daughter in law.
"Alpha, I just arrived here. Are you certain this isn't a task better suited for someone more experienced?"
"Deniz," he said, his tone growing serious. "I trust your abilities, Deniz. You've proven yourself to me. I've seen you fight. I've seen you in action. I have no doubt you'll do an excellent job. No excuses—starting tomorrow your only focus will be Adeline."
His words left no doubt that this wasn't a request—it was an order.
Before I could protest further, Adeline interjected, Her voice was smooth and measured, yet it carried an air of authority that instantly put me on edge. "My assistant will provide you with my schedule. From now on, you'll accompany me everywhere and ensure my safety."
Her polite smile did little to mask the shift in her expression. Something in her gaze felt... wrong. There was something unsettling about the way her gaze lingered on me. A coldness beneath the surface, perhaps? Or maybe it was just the situation clouding my perception
I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it made my wolf stir uneasily.
"You may leave now," she added with a flick of her wrist, dismissing me like a servant.
I swallowed my frustration and stood, nodding respectfully toward Alpha Lucian. "Understood. Have a good day, Alpha," I said before turning to leave.
As I exited the room, my wolf, Derya, was quick to voice her discontent.
"I don't like her," she growled, her voice sharp in my mind.
"Neither do I," I admitted, my thoughts spiraling. Adeline was undeniably beautiful, with an elegance that could captivate anyone's attention. But there was something else—an arrogance or hidden malice that set my instincts on edge.
"What am I supposed to do now?" I muttered aloud, feeling a mix of frustration and unease.
I pulled out my phone and called Alya, desperate to hear a familiar voice. Ever since we returned to the camp, we hadn't had much time to talk. She answered within seconds.
"Deniz!" Alya answered, her familiar voice a comforting balm to my frayed nerves.
"You'll never believe this," I said, sarcasm dripping from every word. "Guess who's been assigned as the personal bodyguard to the future Luna?"
"What?!" Alya exclaimed, her shock mirroring my own. "You're joking. Derek put you up to this, didn't he?"
"Nope. Alpha Lucian himself," I replied, pacing as I spoke. "And since Derek doesn't know, I can't even be mad at him. But seriously, he could've picked anyone else."
"Honestly," Alya said after a pause, "it might be for the best. If he'd chosen any of the girls from the center, they'd probably smother the new Luna in her sleep."
Her words caught me off guard, and I couldn't help but laugh. "You've got a point. The girls here are insanely jealous. And as much as I can't stand Adeline, she does need protection."
