A woman. A voice I have heard. Not just once. Many more than twice. No, I have heard this voice a lot of times. It was weird. I was blanking. Who is that person. Who's voice is that. I still couldn't think. Then it hit me.
Why the voice was so familiar. It was mom. Why was she calling. Is she finally apologizing? No. Thru the muffled voice on the phone, she said, " Hank, give me the kids." She said it so firmly, sternly. She sounded put together, unlike dad. Dad was still beat red. He still definitely looked like he was crying.
I can't believe mom. Mom. Should I call her mom? I don't know anymore. She hasn't been acting like a mom, so why would I call her that. Alyssa. She I call her Alyssa. No. Yes.
Dad replys with a sad yet mad "No, Alyssa, you can't handle them, you never could.". His voice. Was harsh but soft. I could see the look in his eyes. Terrified. He was terrified. Of mom. Of mom stealing us. My sisters and me. He knew she couldn't take good care of us, so he was terrified. A good dad. A caring dad.
"What did you say to me?" Mom replies loudly as if she was yelling, screaming in the phone, but to me, it was a normal talking voice. Dad is appalled. He is mad more than sad. He's not mad he's infeariated at mom. I am, too. She has some nerve wanting us back.
"I think you heard me just fine," Dad says, and then hangs up. He looks up at the ceiling. Ashamed. Sad. Mad. He still hasn't noticed me. I felt bad. Divorces are hard. But this one is harder.
