Hobby (noun);
"An activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure."
A hobby can be picked up late in life or nurtured from an early age. One can have many hobbies, be it co-related or something entirely different.
For me, I've always had a thing for singing. In secondary school, I joined Contemporary Dance. You might wonder, "Why dance and not something related to singing? Like choir." Back then, I wasn't really interested to join Choir and instead, chose dance. I wasn't the best dancer or a fast learner either. I just felt like I didn't belong.
Now, as I've advanced to tertiary education, I rekindled with my love for singing. During April 2015, I signed up for the a cappella audition. That was not something I would normally dive into. But it was something worth trying. Just imagine Pitch Perfect.
And that was one of the best choices that I made. Who knew that TAG, That Acapella Group, would become my second family? I did pass my auditon, albeit shakily. I was really nervous and my voice cracked. It wasn't the best impression but I was willing to try. I sang Missed by Ella Henderson. Also, I was tested on what my vocal range would be. Turns out, I'm an Alto or otherwise known as the mid range.
But my coach suggested that I move to the high range or otherwise known as a Soprano. I never knew that I could reach high notes. It was like a whole new world to me; discovering new things about myself.Recently, I took part in the 2015 Acapella Championship with my group, Synx and the weeks before that were basically stressful. Friendships were tested, sacrifices were made, tears were released and joy was expressed. It was insane.
I grew. I was shy on stage and couldn't stop my hands from shaking and now, I'm slightly more confident and my hands didn't shake during the competition. In fact, I enjoyed myself thouroughly. My group became bonded over the weeks before the competition and I guess that was what made it all the more worthwhile.
And so, Synx clinched a Sliver award. Considering that it was our first time on stage, we did a pretty good job.
Besides singing, I love to read and write. I'm not sure when it first started. Probably during primary school. I remember that I was assigned as a reading buddy for my juniors. I taught them how to read and enunciate words. I guess that was when I opened my eyes to the world of reading and writing.
It was as if it was ingrained in me. How the words seem to effortlessly flow within my fingertips. How my inner muse would whisper its ideas and inspiration. It just comes easily to me. I do get writer's block sometimes and it takes a while for new ideas to form.
So, one question which I'd like to ask you is, "What are your hobbies?"
