Before Percy left Olympus, he decided to make a few calls. And since Marlowe was practically attached at to his hip, he decided to take her with him. It wasn't easy, but they finally found a quiet fountain in a corner garden and sent an Iris-message to Tyson, under the sea.

Percy told him about their adventures, and Bessie—he wanted to hear every detail about the cute baby cow serpent—and Percy assured him that Marlowe was safe.

"I'm right here, buddy," Marlowe said, putting a big smile on her face. "Safe and sound."

Tyson still frowned. "Pretty girl is safe?" He asked the question with so much meaning behind it, Marlowe couldn't help but let her shoulders slump.

She wasn't really safe, but for the time being, she wasn't in danger. That had to count for something.

"Yeah, Ty, I'm okay," Marlowe assured, her voice softening.

Finally Percy got around to explaining how the shield Tyson had made him last summer had been damaged in the manticore attack.

"Yay!" Tyson said. "That means it was good! It saved your life!"

"It sure did, big guy," Percy said. "But now it's ruined."

"Not ruined!" Tyson promised. "I will visit and fix it next summer."

The idea picked Percy up instantly. He hadn't realized how much he missed having Tyson around.

"Seriously?" Percy asked. "They'll let you take time off?"

"Yes! I have made two thousand seven hundred and forty-one magic swords," Tyson said proudly, showing them the newest blade. "The boss says 'good work'! He will let me take the whole summer off. I will visit camp!"

The three talked for a while about war preparations and Poseidon's fight with the old sea gods, and all the cool things they could do together next summer, but then Tyson's boss started yelling at him and he had to get back to work.

Marlowe sighed as the Iris-message faded away. "I miss him already," she said with a small pout.

Percy wrapped an arm around her and squeezed her shoulder in a soothing way. "I know, but we'll see him soon."

Marlowe didn't want to think about that, though. The next time she saw everyone they would been heading into the labyrinth for another death quest. Couldn't she have a day with her friends without worrying about their lives?

Percy dug out his last golden drachma and made one more Iris-message. "Sally Jackson," he said. "Upper East Side, Manhattan."

The mist shimmered, and there was Percy's mom at their kitchen table, laughing and holding hands with her friend Mr. Blowfish.
