Hey all! Enjoy the new chapter!

Gwen's POV

It's currently nighttime, and The Team is gathered in the cave watching Kid Flash destroy Aqualad at air hockey when I get a notification from my cell phone.

Only Superboy and Robin seem to be paying any attention, both of them nodding at me curiously and returning to watch the game.

Acknowledging them with a nod, I take a few steps back and turn my attention to the device in my hand.

A text from Red Arrow.

He wants my help infiltrating the Shadows to save a scientist.

So, it's that episode.

Looking back at my team, I see them laughing as Aqualad sulks while Kid Flash crows over his victory.

They look happy. Relaxed.

Like kids.

...

I can't put them in danger.

I don't want to lie to them, so I don't.

I call out to the team, saying I got a text from a friend, and that they need my help with something. They wish me well and tell me they'll let me know if they get a mission.

But I won't let it come to that. I won't let them face League assassins.

I shoot a confirmation text back to Roy.

'I'm coming.'

Roy's POV

Peeking out from behind a brick corner, I surveil my latest mission.

Infiltrating one of the many fortresses belonging to the League of Shadows will be difficult. Crawling with surveillance and armed guards, the security is tight, and the risks are high.

That's why I called in backup.

Almost like she sensed my thoughts, Spider Woman comes swinging in, demonstrating her impressive acrobatics and parkour, landing silently next to me.

"Showoff," I mutter with good humor. I can never keep hold of any negative thoughts when I'm with her. If I didn't know better, I'd say that was her superpower.

"I know you are, but what am I?" She retorts smugly.

I roll my eyes.

She then turns serious. "So what's the plan?"

Mirroring her mood, I turn back towards the fortress. "We're after Dr. Roquette, the League is holding her captive while she completes a dangerous nanotechnology capable of destroying anything in its path. We need to find and rescue her before she can finish it."

"Sounds pretty serious," the female hero says blithely, "there a reason you only called for backup as an afterthought?"

I can't help my sigh of exasperation, busted. "Look, I could have handled it-"

"Sure, you could've."

"-but I didn't want to risk things going awry, and you always have a way of finishing the fight with the best outcome. So, I need your help."

I can tell that ended the argument when her expression softens under the mask.

"Alright, Little John. You know you always have my support. Let's do this."
