TW: Mentions of eating disorders
"I didn't eat for three days so I could be lovely."
That she did.
That she wasn't.
This is what it looks like:
A girl in a burger joint, taking her time to slowly take in the sights and sounds of everything and everyone before taking a bite and pulling a face. She stays like that for a bit, trying to swallow until she can't and she goes to the counter to pay her bill. She leaves. The waiter who comes to clean her table shakes his head, mumbling something about the current generation and food waste, how they're so ungrateful for what they have.
This is how it is:
A girl in a burger joint, trying not to focus on the food in front of her, trying not to remember how many meals she'd have to skip for this one small burger. She takes a bite, trying not to care, but she can't. The taste in her mouth is acidic, the texture like sawdust, like it doesn't belong in her mouth, very much like how she didn't belong in that burger joint. Full of happy people joyfully enjoying their food without a worry. She wishes she could be like that, but to be happy she needed to be lovely and to be lovely she needed to not eat. She wasn't being really lovely right then, was she? She tried to swallow, she really did. But how could you, when the pines of wood and coarse sand of sawdust are poking at your throat? She sighed, looking at the burger in front of her. She couldn't take another bite, not even if she was here for hours. Maybe it's a good thing, she thinks as she pays her bill on the way out. She's on the streets now, cold, tired, and trying to be proud. Proud of her next actions, not the one in the burger joint. Her next actions being to find a restroom to expel whatever bitterness was left in her mouth, and find something to drink the taste away. A 100g of whiskey is only what, 250 calories?
She could afford that.
All to be lovely.

A/N: The quote used above is said by a character named Cassie Ainsworth from a show called Skins (UK). Fantastic show, totally recommend. Sorry for a shorter story than usual.
