Mark of the Mutants

Prologue

October 16, 2006

My lungs burn as I run faster and faster away from the faceless men in suits and they're gaining on me. I trip on some debris and my already sore body begins to fall and crash onto the gravel below me. Cold, calloused hands grip my arms and yank me up. I give out a yelp and my eyes begin to water unable to hold back the tears any longer.

"Where are my mom and dad? I can't find them" I squeak out. A Middle Eastern man smiled at me sickly sweet and said "That's not your concern anymore" His yellow eyes bore into me and I don't feel a needle poke into me and in seconds the world fades to black.

I open my eyes and realize I'm on a chilling operating table, my feet and wrists chained to it. My body is covered in itchy white sheet and I feel sweat streaming down my face. I hear humming and an electric shock is forced through my body and I scream until the painful sensation is gone. I breathe heavily and tilt my head to the side to see the same yellow eyed scientist, dressed in a chemical hazard suit, holding what looks like a branding iron with the brand glowing a pale green. He smirks and says to his partners, "This is the beginning my friends, the beginning of Deviants." He places the iron brand my right wrist and I scream.

Present day

I wake with a start, drenched in sweat, and breathing heavily. The same mark burns on my wrist and I breathe in deeply and throw my legs off my bed. This is the same nightmare that has haunted me since I was ten, but the thing is it's not just a dream.

It's a memory.

I'm writing this as a warning to the public and as an answer to your misconceptions. I didn't choose this life, but it's now one I don't want to give up. I'm telling you this now, and I hope you will aid me in my attempt to stop them. They changed me and tried to turn me into a monster. I escaped, but the world will always know me by what they labeled me.
