Chapter 5: When Two Worlds Collide

Lauren's POV

I saw a car weave through the parking lot through the blankets of rain and instantly knew it was Lisa. No other human on the face of the Earth drove as recklessly as her. Her headlights blinded me momentarily when she came to a stop facing where i was sitting next to Skylar.

The headlights turned off and i heard her open the car door. I looked up and saw her slowly pace toward me. She stopped a couple feet away looked at me with a shocked expression. Her eyes made their way from me to Skylar sprawled out against the dirt riddled asphalt with only his head placed in my lap. Her eyes then glazed back until they met my gaze.

"What did you do?!" Her accusing tone made it pretty clear that she thought i was responsible for the unconscious boy resting against my legs.

"Nothing!! He got in a fight..." I could feel my voice quiver when the words came muttering out. I still felt responsible for this whole mess.

"...Did he win?"

I looked back up at Lisa, somewhat astonished she asked that then i looked back at Skylar before answearing, "Yeah, he did." I was really surprised when i saw Skylar with his arms locked around Trents neck. It just didn't seem like something he was capable of. But i guess there was a lot of things i didnt know about him..

"So, do you know this kid or what?" Her voice was delayed a bit as if she were still focusing on figuring out the situation.

"Ya he's.. A friend." I could feel my eyes begin to swell and even though i wasnt actually crying I'm sure the rainwater streaming down my cheeks made it look that way. This was all my fault.

"Lisa..." I paused, then looked at Lisa with trembling eyes. "What do i do...?"

She gazed at me with her worried eyes that seemed to say "how would i know?!" She looked back at Skylar and took a moment before responding.

"I don't know but we cant wait around in the rain... Lets bring him home, Mom and Dad will know what to do."
Lisa walked up to me and put her arms around him and sat him up straight. After that she took his arm and wrapped it around her neck.

"Well, aren't you gonna help me?" Lisa asked. It wasn't until then i realized she was trying to lift him up. Before that i was in a daze trying to figure out what she was doing. I positioned myself next to Skylar and put his right arm around my neck as Lisa had done with his left.
My car was only a couple car spaces away so it didn't take long before we had him strapped into the passenger seat of my car.
"Wheres Dani" Lisa asked. It hadn't occurred to me since then that i didn't know where my own sister was. I pulled out my phone and saw a message from Dani that read,

Im walking home with Alex and Celestina so don't wait up for me.

Instead of answering i simply showed Lisa my phone in which she nodded.
"Ok ill see you at home." Lisa said as she turned and headed for her car.

The whole house came to life when they saw Lisa and I walk through the front door with an unconscious boy between us. Our mom was the first to notice us and even though he wasn't her own child her motherly instincts must've kicked in because she ran to the door saying "what happened?" With a sense of panic in her voice.
Lisa saved me the trouble by answering, "Its one of Lauren's friends he got in a fight at school." My mom looked at me for a second but resumed her examination of Skylar soon after.
"Ok im gonna need an ice pack and some bandages from the supply cabinent. Lisa would you mind getting those for me?"

"Sure mom"

"Lauren i want you to check his phone and see if you can call his parents."

"Ok" i reached in Skylers left jean pocket and touched his warm leg. I quickly pulled my hand out and realized there was a hole in his pocket. Mom had left to grab something otherwise she would've seen me blushing and thought something was wrong. I patted his right leg and felt his phone. This time i carefully stuck only my fingers in and grabbed his phone. I turned it on to reveal an ocean backround.

Just my luck, it was password protected. I set the phone down on a night stand next to the couch Skylar was laying on. He was still out cold. At least it was the weekend it would've been bad if we had school tomorrow. I sat down in the chair next to the couch and began to nod off. Something about the sound of rain made me so sleepy....

"...Hello? Who is this?"

"My name is Detective Morgan I'm with the California Police Department. Is this Skylar?"

"What? No I'm a friend of his.  Can i ask what this is all about?"
