Chapter 8: Wishful Thinking

Lauren's POV

I cant sleep....

No matter what i tried i couldn't fall asleep. I felt anxious, like something was going to happen. The feeling you have when you're going to Disneyland the next day or have something exciting scheduled. But i knew that wasn't the case, i had checked and knew for certain i didn't have any plans tomorrow. Still, i felt like something was going to happen. Something like Skylar would open up my door and ask where the bathroom was or some other excuse like that. But nothing happened. I just kept staring at the door, waiting for something to happen.
Laying in bed gave me a lot of time to re-process everything that happened that day. I kept considering the possibility that if i hadn't simply hit Trent none of this day would've happened. That got me thinking about what i would do if i could re-do this day all over again. I knew none of that was possible but i still couldn't help thinking about it, and about Skylar.
What must be going through his head right now? It must be ten times worse in his situation. He hasn't been able to inform his parents, he's staying at a house he randomly woke up in and to top it all off theres a cop asking to talk to him. I sure hope theres something i can do to help him.
Thats when it hit me. He forgot his phone in the living room! I threw my legs over the side of the bed and fumbled through the dark for the lamp chain. After that i slipped through the crack in my doorway and tip toed down the stairs. His phone was right where i left it, upside down with his chrome case right side up. I retrieved it and silently made my way to the back door. It was a short walk to the casita but a long wait at the front door. I couldn't bring myself to knock or open the door. I kept considering which option would be better or if i should abort the mission all togethor. I took one deep breath in, then out... Im just gonna open it.
I opened the door slowly and peeked through with my head. If any of my neighbors had seen me it must've looked like i was breaking and entering.
I once again silently navigated the room until i reached the side of his bed. He was once again fast asleep in the same adorable position. I set the cell phone on the night stand and decided id better get out before Skylar, or even worse my mom, woke up and found me....
That didn't help at all... I thought as i laid in my bed. Now I'm more awake than before.
