It was when Yibo and Zhan were 8 years old. The night was enlightened with laughter and the warm glow of fairy lights strung around the villa, casting a magical ambiance over the gathering. Both the Wang and Xiao family had brought this villa for their gatherings. And today for the new year, they had invited their relatives and others friends. The whole villa was filled with various dressed people.
Yibo and Zhan both were brimming with excitement, darted around the spacious living room with eyes sparkling with mischief. The villa nestled beside the serene lake was the perfect backdrop for their new year celebration.
As the clock inched closer, the families gathered around a large table filled with delicious food. Zhan with his pretty features and slender frame was the center of attention, charming everyone with his adorable smile. While Yibo settled by his side, looked moody yet playful.
After dinner the adults began to chat, leaving the two boys to their own. The two besties decided to sneak outside to the backyard where the cool breeze swept in from the lake, carrying the scent of pine and the distant sound of laughter. They found a cozy spot by the edge of the lake where they could see the stars twinkling above. Zhan sighed contentedly, leaning against Yibo's shoulder. "So beautiful." he whispered with a smile. Yibo softly hummed, taking a glance at him.
Suddenly they heard their parents calling. "Yibo! Zhan! Come here! Let's blow some firecrackers." The two boys immediately rushed to their parents. They fired the crackers and played with them. As the countdown began their hearts pounding with anticipation.
"Three, two, one... Happy New Year!" Everyone exclaimed in cheers. Fireworks lit up the sky, reflecting in the lake's calm waters. Yibo and Zhan lifted their astonished faces, getting illuminated by the colors bursting above. In that moment, Yibo turned to Zhan with soft smile, his heart swelling with joy. "This is the best new year ever!" He exclaimed, his voice filled with sincerity.
Zhan also gaze back at him, eyes sparkled as he replied, "Yeah! I wish every year could be like this!" Then suddenly he turned himself to Yibo and said, "Bobo! Let's promise that we'll always celebrate new year together." He stretched out his little finger toward Yibo. Yibo chuckled and nodded. "Promise!" They sealed their promise with a pinky swear. As they intertwined their pinkies, Yibo felt a warmth spread through him, a feeling he couldn't quite understand yet. Zhan's eyes softening with a wide smile showing his bunny teeth.
As the night wore on, they get inside the villa. They played games, shared presents and when Zhan accidentally spilled juice on himself, Yibo couldn't help but laugh.
"You're such a clumsy bunny!" Yibo teased, ruffling Zhan's hair playfully. Zhan adorably sulked. And everyone about them couldn't help but to burst into laughter when they saw Yibo trying to pleasing Zhan, apologising for teasing him.
As the fireworks faded and the night drew to a close, Yibo and Zhan stood by the lake once more, the moonlight shimmering on the water. "Bobo! Promise me we'll be best friends forever." Zhan said, his voice filled with earnest. Yibo nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "I promise. You'll be my one and only brloved best friend. I'll protect you no matter what." He replied with the brightest smile.
Zhan smiled and wished, "Happy new year, Bobo!"
"Happy new year, Zhannie~" Yibo approached and pulled Zhan in an embrace.
