Background of the poem: The poem is inspired by the book "The Mortal Instruments" which includes fairy tale things such as ghosts, demons, fairies, warlocks, and vampires. This particular poem is about a rogue vampire who enchants a mortal (normal human being) into falling in love with her. The mortal gave everything to her, even more than she expected, but in the end the vampire's love was all a lie. Nobody had ever heard of her lover's story until now. The vampire proved that mortal souls literally don't last long.

Mortal Souls Don't Last Long

You mortal soul,
Story untold,
I asked for silver,
You brought me gold.

You mortal soul,
I'll break you whole,
You think I love you,
But inside I'm cold.

You mortal soul,
You think you're bold,
Think my love is free,
But it was sold.

You mortal soul,
You'll pay the toll,
You can't last longer,
I won't let you go.

You mortal soul,
Tie you to a pole,
I'll force you down,
If you won't hold.

You mortal soul,
Give me a bowl,
Let me drain your blood,
And drink it whole.

You mortal soul,
Story' s now told,
I asked for silver,
But you gave me gold.

Sorry guys I can't seem to find a way to align alp the words properly...
