I: What's the greatest thing that has ever happened to you?
L: The people I love. My dad, my siblings, my beautiful niece... My group of friends, whose support means everything to me. But also-especially my fiancée, of course. [Smiles].
I: Again, congratulations on the engagement! How does it feel to navigate that new chapter in your life?
L: I appreciate that. Honestly, it's scary to open up, but I know it's worth it. In the past, I've struggled with anxiety in new relationships because whenever things changed, they'd often fall apart. And when you're a singer and you're touring and working on new projects as well, things are constantly moving and changing and it's a fucking mess.
But then I met her [her partner] and I realized I wasn't the problem, not entirely at least. I was so used to being the only one who was committed, giving my all to make it work, I didn't even notice that it wasn't supposed to be like that. It was a revelation to experience what it's like to be loved back. And being seen and supported for the first time. It's been a game-changer, having the certainty that someone will always hold my hand through all the changes in life, whether good or bad, joyful or sad -- oh man, it's beautiful. And I love that I don't have to tour alone anymore. [Laughs].
I: Is she the one?
L: Oh, yes, absolutely. She's my one and only. [Smiles]. Finally, right?
Interview fragment, Lana Del Rey for The Hollywood Reporter, September 2023
━━━━⊱♡⊰━━━━
"Did you know...?"
Lana raises an eyebrow as she finishes taking a sip of her orange juice, your mysterious tone clear as day. A sigh leaves her lips afterwards.
"Baby, if you start singing Ocean Boulevard again, I swear-"
A snort interrupts the rest of the sentence.
"Wasn't goin' to," you offensively reply. "No, this is, like, serious."
"Right..." Lana rests her chin on her hand, eyes shining with a kind of amusement and skepticism. "What is this serious matter you wish to speak about then, my love?"
Her slight tease makes you want to roll your eyes. But you decide to focus on what truly matters. So you rest your forearms on the table, your gaze not shy away from hers. And you could swear her eyes gained an extra playful spark.
"What, you gonna break up with me at our favorite diner? 'Cause I'll write a whole album about this if you do."
"You sure?" You can't help but play along. "Because your heartbreak albums are the best so, I might consider it."
Lana chuckles. And god, you love the sound.
"Please, darling, you were taking pictures of me like two minutes ago with puppy eyes."
Damn. She was so engrossed in her conversation with Charlie, you were certain you were being extremely discreet. You should've known that moving to a free table for no apparent reason was already reason enough to raise suspicion.
"That's not- I was checking the weather."
Despite maintaining your badass facade, you can feel a slight blush making its visible way onto your face. The fact that this woman makes you flustered so easily, even after so many years of relationship, is really embarrassing.
Lana reaches her hand across the table, her fingers now softly tracing patterns on yours. She's way beyond amused, if the smirk on her face is any proof of that.
"Was it hot? The weather, I mean."
"Well, obviously," your fingers brushing back against her own. She chuckles, and a small smile tugs at your lips. "Alright, stop distracting me. I'm trying to say somethin' serious, y'know."
"Oh, I'm listenin', alright," Lana reaches for her oranje juice with her free hand, taking a sip before adding, "But I don't have all day, though."
"For me, you do."
And that makes her genuinely smile, because she knows you're right.
Lana is more than ready to tease you back, banter a common part of your shared daily routine, but words fail her when you suddenly decide to move to her seat. The slight surprise is replaced with more amusement as you absolutely glue yourself to her side, arms wrapping around her waist.
"Comfortable?" She murmurs, shifting slightly to the side, giving you more space. Welcoming you into her arms.
"For now..." You murmur back, nuzzling against her neck for a moment. The soft kisses you place on her skin make her hum softly.
"Stop being clingy, I love it," Lana says with a giggle, her arms holding you closer. More securely.
You pull away ever so slightly, just to be able to make eye contact. She definitely takes the opportunity to press a soft kiss against your lips, and then another one on your cheek. And you're feeling the butterflies-or whatever the hell they are-all over again, just like the first time you experienced the touch of her lips, the gentleness and tenderness behind such a simple gesture. And yet, she made it so meaningful, so special. And certainly as primordial as breathing.
"What did I know?" Her voice caresses your ear, another kiss placed there as well.
You'be becoming weak to her displays of affection, unable to respond with anything but honest truth. No teasing.
"That I love you..." You say, eyes searching for hers again. They're sparklimg so brightly. "Like, a lot."
"That's it?"
You huff. "Whatever."
Your attempt to return to your seat is thwarted when Lana protests and holds you in the embrace tightly.
"Just joking! I love you too, my love. I love you so fucking much, ugh- Drives me crazy."
It's her turn to nuzzle against your neck. The kisses you receive send shivers down your spine, and make you smile the silliest lovestruck smile of all.
"Stop being clingy, I hate it."
But your actions contradict your words the moment your hand comes to rest on her thigh, squeezing softly, and you want nothing more than to bring her closer. You're needing that pretty badly, having her on your lap to kiss her senseless.
"My beautiful fiancée..."
Lana can't contain the urge to press her lips against yours in a longer but equally sweet kiss. And you sigh almost in relief in the middle of the kiss. This woman's going to make you melt right in your spot and be so proud of it.
You crave her. Always have and always will.
As you gently press a series of soft kisses against the corner of her lips, Lana struggles to stifle her giggles, and every so often, you catch her lips directly in a tender kiss.
"Can we leave already?" You murmur, hands already sneaking under her coat.
"Getting needy, I see." She teases.
"Needy, greedy, and all that. Can you blame me?"
Lana reaches for her purse, her other arm still securely around you. "No, I can't. Should we head home?"
The casual suggestion makes her pause, the word resonating deeply within her. Home. It's a concept she's always yearned for, a sense of belonging and safety she's never known. And in this moment, she knows she's found it - in you. She doesn't need to keep running to other places in search, no more.
You give a slight nod, smiling.
"Let's go home."
Finally.
