"Chelsea I really don't want to."
"Mer come on, all you've done for almost two weeks is, wait NOTHING!"
"I don't feel like doing anything." I shrugged.
"Just get in my car please." She sighed.
"Fine, whatever." I agreed, "But I want to at least know where we are going."
Chelsea is pretty crazy. She is known for being a crazy fun person. At any other time, I'd be happy to go be crazy with her, but right now, all I can think about is Nick.
She is right, I haven't done anything in basically two weeks. I just haven't been in the mood.
"Meredith? Did you hear anything I just said??"
"What?" I asked startled from my thoughts.
Chelsea sighed, "I was asking about you and Nick."
"Don't know." I wanted to say we were perfectly fine.
She didn't say anything. I guess she was waiting for me to continue.
"We haven't spoke in two weeks. I miss him I really do, Chelsea. I don't know what I did wrong. I thought I did the right thing, calling the cops on his dad." I sighed, "but apparently he expected me to just sit there and hear everything that was happening, and not do one thing. He could've been hurt badly, or even gotten killed..." I didn't even know I was crying until she handed me a tissue.
"Babe I know you aren't going to agree with me, but you should talk to him." She took a glance at me and continued, "You know, he is probably hurting right now too."
I nodded. "Yeah I guess so."
She gave a sympathetic smile and said, "What if we just go to the ice cream shop and then go to the park?"
"Sure."
Chelsea took a U-turn and drove to the ice cream shop.
"Thanks for this, Chels. I've missed you." I said after eating some of my ice cream.
She smiled and said, "I've missed you too."
We were both having a really good time until I looked to the right and saw Nick. He was there with his little cousin, Mason. Unlike me, he looks happy. I just kinda stared at them playing, casually saying things like "oh totally" or laugh to Chelsea even though I didn't know anything she was saying.
"Meredith, I know you aren't listening. You just laughed when I said my dog died."
"Oh gosh I'm sorry Chelsea." I turned to look at her.
"It's fine, I know what your looking at anyways." She said laughing a little.
I turned back and just continued watching Nick try to teach mason monkey bar tricks.
"Mer, go talk to him."
I turned my attention back to Chelsea. "I don't know if I want to. Do you see how happy he looks?"
She sighed and pushed me off the bench, "Go."
I looked at Nick and Mason then back to Chelsea.
"I'm waiting." She said.
I let out a nervous breath and slowly started to walk over there. This was the most stupid thing for me to agree to. He doesn't need me! He's happy. But I kept walking, Chelsea would only make me walk back over there again.
The closer I got to Nick, my heart beat faster.
When I was only like two steps away from them, Nick turned and saw me. My heart broke when I saw the bruise on his face from his father. I completely stopped dead in my tracks when a girl came over and kissed Mason on cheek then did the same to Nick. This has to be a mistake. Please let me be dreaming right now.
I closed my eyes and re opened them. Not a dream. Nick was still staring at me and I know tears were spilling from my eyes. My hands started shaking and I wanted to walk away but I just couldn't. I couldn't move.
Come on Meredith. Don't let him see you like this. Show him you don't need him, either.
I breathed in and out and re-gained my strength. I took those few more steps and as soon as I got there, Mason came and hugged me.
"Meredith!"
I smiled weakly and squatted down to his level, "Hey Mason. You have gotten even bigger than the last time I've seen you!"
He smiled and nodded, "We miss you."
"We?" I asked.
He nodded slowly, "Me and Nick have. I made him take me here, and I told him to be happy the whole time."
Nick finally quit talking to that girl and noticed where Mason was and walked over.
I stood up and he said, "Hello Meredith."
I pressed my lips together and half waved to Nick. "How are you?" He asked.
"Fine." I lied. "You?"
"Fine." He said. Mason looked at both of us noticing the tension between us.
Mason pulled at my hand motioning me to squat down.
Mason whispered in my ear, "That girl is our cousin who just got back from London"
My cheeks got red. Nick heard what was said then laughed.
I shyly pushed my hair behind my ear then laughed too at how I jumped to conclusions so fast.
Nick whispered something to Mason and then he went to play.
Nick walked closer to me. "You know, I've really missed you." He said while walking even closer.
I blushed. "I've missed you too actually." I said looking up at him.
He smiled his smile I adore. I smiled back at him.
About 10 minutes later I texted Chelsea and told her everything is going great and she can leave.
The tension was completely gone between me and nick. It was like nothing had even happened. But I wasn't so sure how I felt about that.
"Nick" I said interrupting him in mid sentence, "I'm sorry."
He looked at me and smiled.
"No, you did the right thing. I didn't. If you wouldn't of done what you did- well you know what could've happened. I should be the one apologizing, not you." He said while grabbing my hand. "I love you Meredith."
I gave his hand a tight squeeze and said, "I love you too."
We spent about two more hours at the park just goofing off with Mason and taking silly pictures, but then it started to pour rain. Mason insisted on staying, and I didn't mind staying either, but Nick said he had to take Mason home. So Nick, Mason, and I got in Nick's truck and drove to Mason's house.
We dropped off Mason then Nick started driving to my house. About fifteen minutes later, we got to my house.
A huge clap of thunder boomed as soon as I opened the car door. I jumped in fright and closed the door back. Nick chuckled. "Are you sure your going to be fine here?" He asked.
I nodded. Truth is, storms scare the absolute heck out of me. And just to make things even worse, neither of my parents were home.
"Are you sure?" Nick grabbed my hand, "because I can stay if you want me to."
"No I'll be fine." I reassured him.
He nodded and kissed me goodbye. "Call me if you need anything okay?"
I nodded.
"Be safe please. I love you." I said.
"I will, I love you too." He answered.
I quickly opened the car door blew him a kiss laughing then shut the door, running inside my house. Before I shut the door completely, I made sure Nick drove off alright. Man I missed him already.
