A D H W I T

“Hello?” came a voice from the unknown number. “ Are you Mr. Adhwit Oberoi?” “Yeah. Who are you?” “Sir your wife had an accident. Please come at the address I sent before” the man told me and I rushed towards the haspital, near the Hotel. I asked the receptionist about her room no. “N..N.. nakshatra?” I was so shocked to say anything. “Her head is bleeding badly, along with so many bruises and an internal bleeding. There are so many complications and her life is at risk!” “Doctor, doctor save my wife anyhow please!” “We'll try!” “What do you mean by Try? I need my wife alive! Did you get that?” I said grabbing his collor.

“Doctor... Doctor how is she?” I asked two hours later, tears still streaming down my face. “She's out of danger now. She's fine but not stable. She's still stuck in past due to some scenario recently!” the doctor said. “Can I meet her?” I asked. “Sure!” he said, and I rushed towards her room. There I saw something that confused me. “Nakshatra?” I called her name. “Stay... Stay away from me!” she said. “Nakshatra?” I called again. “No. No no!!! Don't close the light. Please. Please!” “Nakshatra?” I called again. “No... No don't Hurt Adhwit, it wasn't his fault!” she said again. This time, I shook her lightly. “Wifey? Nakshatra? You okay?” “Adhwit.. Adhwit!” she said and clicked onto me tightly as if she's asking me to not let her go!
But, one thing was clear. This wasn't just because of an accident!! “Doctor? Can I take her home?” “Sure. But don't leave her alone!” and we flew to India back. Just then my phone buzzed.

Unknown: Better stay away from her or else, the next time you won't be be able to locate her, I'll mke sure!

Caring less about the text, I continued feeding her Dal and Chawal. “Nakshatra?” “Hmm?” “I'll tell your family about your condition!” I said. “No. Don't! They will blame you for the things you didn't do!” She Said and the next moment the bell rang revealing her Family. The moment I opened the door, her father clutched onto my collor and began yelling at me! “You... We gave our responsibility, our daughter to you, and what you did?” “Papa, I'm sorry. Please papa!” I was chanting these words, feeling guilty at myself. Nakshatra was stopping us, but we weren't! At the end, she stepped in, and slapped me tightly! And sat on the floor, tears flooding her eyes. I panicked, picking her up, and making her sit on the couch comfortabley. “Papa! Did you noticed how he's addresseing you? He's giving you respect of a father. The man who even calls his own father by his name is calling you papa! And, it wasn't anyone's fault but mine. It was my fault that I didn't looked around while crossing the road” she said. “And Bhabhi, take care of Baby Adira because...” she stopped midway. “Nothing.” she said and her family left saying they have to attend a wedding.

As the door closed behind her family, a heavy silence settled in the room. Nakshatra leaned back into the couch, her eyes fluttering shut as if the weight of the world pressed down on her. I knelt in front of her, gently taking her hands in mine.

“Nakshatra,” I whispered softly. “Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?”

She opened her eyes, her gaze meeting mine. A faint smile danced on her lips, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I’m fine, Adhwit,” she murmured. “It’s just... everything feels so overwhelming right now.”

I nodded, not wanting to push her. “You don’t have to explain anything to me right now, wifey. Just rest. I’ll handle everything.”

She squeezed my hand, her expression softening. “Thank you,” she said, her voice barely audible.

But as I stood to adjust her pillows, I couldn’t help but notice the slight tremor in her hands and the haunted look in her eyes. Whatever she had been through, it wasn’t just an accident. Someone—or something—had shaken her to her core.
