Going back to school after everything that had happened was depressing. I wanted to stay in Dom’s bed all day because I was safe. I had the protection of the person I love the most, and someone I’d only just met but trusted with my life.
I don’t know why, but I was expecting everyone to treat me differently. This was just wishful thinking; things were worse than ever today. Mr Keller, of course, was still acting like a victim. Every time I saw him he would cower away from me, like I was a horrible disease. I could see the playful smile on his face; it made me want to throw up.
Our timetables had changed, due to several students complaining about their lessons. I still had Mr Keller for Biology, but I had Mr Alexander for English. Unfortunately, I didn’t have Mr Hanslow as he was a Music teacher. I was terrible at Music; I couldn’t sing or play an instrument. Mr Hanslow being a Music teacher made him appear to be so much more attractive. I suppose creative, bubbly people like Music, Art and Drama teachers were also more attractive than a Math or Science teacher.
I had English next, which meant I’d see Mr Alexander. I was extremely happy being in his lesson , as it meant Mr Keller couldn’t pull me out of lessons as he usually did. I got there early, and he smiled at me.
‘’Hi, Dom!’’ I said cheerfully.
‘’It’s Mr Alexander in the classroom, Leah. Hi, though.’’ He replied, winking at me.
‘’You better be a good English teacher, or I’m going to kill you.’’
‘’Oh, I’m the best.’’
‘’Arrogance is never attractive, darling.’’
‘’I was kidding, darling. What’s with the happy mood today?’’
I beamed at him. I was happy because of him. Just to clear things up here, I don’t have a crush on him. Sure, he’s hot. Sure, he’s nice. I was in love with Zach Hanslow; no one came even close to him. Dom had made me happy because he had rekindled my broken friendship with Mr Hanslow, and he didn’t turn a blind eye when it was obvious I had a problem.
‘’Um… Leah. Are you going to sit down?’’ Mr Alexander asked, smirking at me.
I looked around, and the whole class had filed in. I took a seat at the back, next to a girl called Amy Reed. She looked at me in disgust.
‘’Sir, why are you being nice to Leah?’’ She called out.
‘’Why shouldn’t I be nice to Leah?’’ Mr Alexander replied, playing dumb.
‘’She’s a slut. She slept with Mr Keller to get a C, you know?’’ Said another girl, practically drooling over him.
‘’I’m sure you’ve made mistakes before, Amelia. I bet you’ve slept with people before, and yet no one judges you.’’ He replied, smirking at her.
‘’Yeah, but not with my teacher!’’ Amelia hissed.
I think I heard her mutter ‘’yet’’ and look over at Mr Alexander dreamily. Mr Alexander rolled his eyes, and cleared his throat.
‘’Amelia, I’m not the same as everyone else. My first impression of Leah was a good one, and I like her despite what I’ve heard. I like each and every one of my students.’’
