Chapter 35: Faction Focus

The next morning, the Academy grounds were alive with chatter. Students, now bonded to their familiars, proudly paraded them around the campus. The twins, Priya and Rhea Damara, were no exception.

"Come on, show them what you can do!" Priya said, crouching beside her vibrant green frog familiar.

Rhea grinned as her own frog, slightly smaller and a brilliant turquoise, hopped onto her shoulder. "Lily and Ripple are amazing. Watch this!"

The two familiars leaped in unison, their movements synchronized as if they shared one mind. As they landed, tiny ripples of water magic spread across the ground, forming glowing patterns that resembled lily pads.

"Impressive," Zephyr said, leaning against a tree, their owl feather pendant glowing faintly. "I didn't know frogs could have that much flair."

"They're not just frogs," Priya said, puffing her chest. "They're magical frogs."

"Best familiars in the Academy," Rhea added with a wink.

Ash, standing nearby, chuckled as his sleek black snake familiar coiled around his arm, its golden eyes watching the frogs with mild interest. "I wouldn't go that far," he teased. "Let's see how your frogs do in the mud."

"Oh, you're on!" Priya said, laughing as Rhea rolled her eyes.

Joy stood slightly apart, her hand resting on her necklace. The events of the previous night were still fresh in her mind. She hadn't shared the full story of her familiar's revelation yet, but the subtle warmth of the pendant was a constant reminder of the bond she'd formed.

The bell rang, signaling the start of the school-wide meeting. Students filed into the grand auditorium, their familiars either perched on their shoulders, tucked into their robes, or following closely behind. The air buzzed with anticipation as they took their seats.

At the front of the room stood Dani, his tall figure commanding attention. Despite being the youngest school advisor and a junior member of the Council, he exuded an air of authority that made everyone listen when he spoke.

"Good morning, everyone," Dani began, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the room. "First, let me congratulate you all on successfully bonding with your familiars. This marks a significant step in your journey as witches."

A wave of applause swept through the room, and Joy felt a small swell of pride as she clapped along.

Dani raised a hand to silence the crowd. "With the Familiar Bonding complete, we now look ahead to the next major milestone: the Faction Selection."

Murmurs rippled through the audience. Faction Selection was one of the most important decisions a witch would make at the Academy, determining the path of their magical education and future endeavors.

Dani gestured, and with a flick of his wand, three glowing symbols appeared in the air: a swirling vortex for Chaos Magic, a balanced scale for Practical Magic, and a shield emblazoned with a rune for Tactical Magic.

"Each of you will choose one of these factions," Dani explained. "Chaos Magic emphasizes creativity and unpredictability, pushing the boundaries of what magic can do. Practical Magic focuses on stability and everyday utility, ensuring that magic serves the needs of the community. Tactical Magic, meanwhile, trains witches in strategy and combat, preparing them to face magical and non-magical threats alike."

The symbols shifted, each glowing brightly as Dani spoke.

"Your faction will shape your studies, your missions, and, ultimately, your role in the magical world. This choice is not one to be taken lightly." He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "However, you're not expected to decide right away. Over the next few weeks, there will be workshops and discussions to help you understand each faction's philosophy and practice. Use this time wisely."
