Anomie: Feeling of confusion or disconnection, you feel out of place or disconnected from society.
Going back to the usual routine was easier than ever, as if nothing happened.
They all were in Transfiguration class, Arabella sat at the back, out of experience. All her focus was at the board and the chalk that kept writing down and she wrote down with it, even when the four girls infront were whispering and chuckling, she kept trying to listen to the class. However when the professor started asking questions, her mind was empty. One of those four girls, which was a brunette, raised her hand and answered few of them.
Well, she already knew this would happen and that's why she was siting in the back. Having no clue where the Transfiguration concentration info went. She couldn't calculate it.
Without adding that a certain smell of musk mixed with cigarettes had to sit beside her. Right at this moment though, she was busy staring at her notes that were obviously missing alot because she couldn't connect anything together. So it wasn't all that annoying even if it was as always very hard to ignore his proximity. I mean..two chairs, beside each other, how much closer can it be when it's not any boy, but the Mattheo Riddle?"Miss Nott" The voice echoed through the 4 tables infront of her.
"Huh?" She snapped out of her thoughts at the sound, raising her head up with her heart pounding in her ears. She could read the professor expression, the side glance and the press of the lips into a thinner line. She hated those moments.
"Name ONE, of the Five Principal Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration"
The professors voice again echoed, and the silent was deadly. All eyes were on her and she knew that, because whenever she had been asked a questions in Transfiguration, her answer would be "can you say that again?" Followed by a random guess, which for her unlucky self would be answered by a disappointed look. She gulped. Arabella knew she had been staring way too much at the Professor. Her eyes glanced down at the notebook which surely had words overall-
"Uh..huh" she blinked, looking at the highlighted in red color phrases, with clear letters, and one row in between. "..I mean, you.. can't..conjure food. Because you can't make food out of nothing.. however you can.. charm the food to enlarge it, make more of it, or bringing it from somewhere else." She read it out aloud, glancing up once or few times at the Professor only. Her hands intertwined tightly. And then it was followed by a satisfied hum coming from the head of the classroom. And the class rolled on.
She looked at her left side to see him leaning on his left elbow and staring at her. "Just cool don't panic, darling" the words rolled off his tongue smoothly before he reached out and pulled his notebook to his front again.
The clock ticked few more seconds then she muttered softly "thanks". Without a sound, she took a deep breath and went back into taking notes with a weird warm feeling in her stomach.
After class she went out first followed by Mattheo who looked back few times. "Where are the others?" He managed to get into the same rhythm of steps as Arabella.
"I don't know. Probably taking their time to leave" she answered nonchalantly, not really thinking of it.
"I thought you guys were close" She could feel those brownish eyes focus on her with one raised eyebrow. "Depends.." she muttered and yet he still seemed to catch it.
"Depends on what?"She sigh, he help her once and now she is being taken under interrogation. "Look, me and Draco, Blaise and Lorenzo aren't close. I don't usually hang out with boys," normally, she thought of adding, but chose not to."..so when Pansy and Lily are with them. I mostly would retrait." And it was followed by a quiet "Oh" from the other side.
finally he seems to get the hang of it.
And that's how the walk went quiet. Arabella glanced at her feet few times, he had fallen few steps behind.
She was sure she wasn't that direct to get it as mean...ugh, she broke the silence by falling few steps back to match his pace again. "Sooo, since you're talkative today. Why don't you tell me about your brother?" She noticed the way his downcast eyes suddenly went to the left side, giving her side eye contact before he turned his head completely."My brother?" It rolled of his tongue with a heavy questionable tone. Did she misremember their blood connection or something. "Uh..yeah?" She replied unsurely. If there was silence before.. now she had sprinkled tension to raise it to high. However he did look forward.
GREAT, she thought.
After the LONG pause, he looked back at his left side again. "What do you want to know?" His voice cut the silence in halv but surely made her think before talking again.
"I don't know.. like..are you two close? Is he nice? And so on" she shrugged.
Mattheo nod, "let's see, how close we are, that's very very complicated, we are close on our dark side but not close by brotherhood," he rolled his eyes aside, watching something, before focusing back at her, "don't worry, I don't expect you to understand that."
He sigh.."..and no, he is not the type you would like to get near of." He finished it with a smile, that didn't reach his eyes.
She blinked. For some reason, she did expect them to be close, the way they acted, and how much of a stranger they made her feel when she was with them, like she could never get to their circle. Though Tom seemed alot more better than Mattheo, he did have that sarcastic tone, but he still was..controlled.
Arabella was sure that Mattheo brought the demons out of the boy and thats why he was so annoyed back at that night. Otherwise, he would've been a great company.
They swinged to right, getting into a narrow passage...
Speaking of the devil..
