School was slow but compared to my conference, it seemed like the best day in the world. Seeming that I thought I would I have a blast listening to my grades and behavior.

"It seems she has a trouble keeping up with most of her classes. Lots of missing assignments, low grades on test scores. Everywhere except art." The supervisor dropped the folder on the desk in front of us. "If she tried, she could easily not be held back."

I started to open my mouth but Jordan stopped me. "Look, she's just having a rough transition into high school. She missed a whole semester and technically just got out of me teaching her eighth grade standards. Once she is adjusted, she'll be stable and keep her grades up."

"Let's hope so because her finals are in two months." He said and handed Jordan the file. "And if she fails those, she's a freshman for a whole year this time." The supervisor left the room and Jordan took me to his car.

I got in and slumped into the chair. I was happy to get out of there but I also just felt like I was lectured.

"I'll try to be around more to h-"

"No, I'm trying my best and you're doing the best you can by paying to keep us in a living condition." I said and saw someone in uniform pulling people away from the bonfire.

"Isn't some of your friends on the team?" He asked, looking back at the bonfire.

"Just Liam but I already told him I couldn't come because of the conference."

"Good, because when we get home, I'm making sure you get all of the missing assignments done." He dropped the file on my lap and got into the car. I looked through the file and sighed.

"There's no way I can get this all done tonight!" I argued.

"That's why you're not allowed to see your friends, especially Liam, until you do." I groaned and looked towards him.

"When did you become such an overprotective brother?" I asked as he started the car.

"What happened to you telling me you were going to focus on your studies so I'd let you into a public high school?" He asked back.

"When did you become so much like a father?" I asked and stormed out of the car, running into the crowds of the bonfire.

As soon as I got to a bench, the music stopped. I looked around and saw Mason next to the stage, dropping a plug. I face palmed and the crowd was devastated. I sat on the bench and watched as the crowd cleared. Someone sat next to me. I looked over to see Liam, clearly wet.

"What happened to you?" I asked and he just smiled.

"I took a shower, obviously. I thought you couldn't come." He asked and moved closer to me.

"Before we left, Jordan and I had a fall out. I didn't leave the school with him." I answered and someone came up to us.

"Hey Liam, do you need a ride home?" I examined this person and seemed to notice him. Then it clicked, the hospital. He was Scott.

"I'd appreciate it." Liam answered and then looked to me, tapping on my shoulder. "Do you need a ride?" I shook my head.

"I should be fine." I said and then mentally added the 'three miles.' I got up and held up my hand as a goodbye as I walked off. It was going to be a long walk.

I walked through the parking lot, looking out for Jordan or anyone else. I wanted to walk home now that I started. I got up the road quickly but felt like I was being watched. I turned around and saw a motorcycle exit the parking lot and head the other way. I sighed and turned back around, continuing my journey home.

I turned around again once I heard a rustle. It could have just been the wind or my jacket hitting the leaves. I looked down to undo my jacket from my waist and saw a shadow over mine under the light. I looked up and screamed, seeing a large creature with bones covering its skin. I ran the other way but it caught up and pushed me down, causing me to black out.
