More than three weeks had gone by since the school year started, and Charlotte spent her time studying, grabbing coffee with Emmaline and training an extreme amount. She had gained a significant amount of muscle now and absorbed hits in practice more easy. Her roommate had been behaving himself for the most part. They bickered and annoyed each other but the situation had been growing easier very slowly.

Their arguments over who gets the first shower, who gets to decide what temperature the room is, and what they were ordering in for dinner had become relatively commonplace, but not irritating. Their paths crossed mostly outside of the room in their shared classes or at training and film. Spending a lot of time with Emmaline, Charlotte had began to only return to the room to shower and sleep. Luke would already be there, with his face glued to the television watching the NHL Preseason- something he had been obsessing over as of late. Charlotte didn't know completely why.

Of course, her two favorite people were playing, but she only caught games when she had the time. Luke was a slave to the NHL Network.

His ESPN+ bill must be crazy.

Emmaline and Charlotte had become virtually inseparable over their studies, and were hyper focused on their project- though they had made little to no progress. Love and Charlotte were not two things that mixed very well.

Practice had upped in both intensity and frequency; with two sessions a day on ice, a team lift, and a film study session, her days felt more and more like she had turned professional. UMich Hockey was not for the weak, and her body felt it with every labored step.

But finally, after a lengthy and painful preseason, it was finally...

"-Happy game-day," Rutger cheered, waving Charlotte over in their favorite university coffee shop. It had grown into a safe haven for them. It was quiet enough that no one knew who they were, and the ones who did weren't awake enough to speak with them.

"Yeah, happy game-day," she replied through sips of her espresso. The caffeine made her fingers tremble.

Rutger watched her shoulders slump. He was dressed in a navy blue suit with his hair flipped perfectly up on itself. His cologne was strong and musky, but his gaze was gentle and kind.

He swigged his coffee as the pair heading to the door. A bell rung above their head, and he held it open for the obviously discouraged girl who slowly strutted out after him. Her red-bottomed heels clicked on the concrete walkway. The coffee shop was only a block or two away from the Yost Ice Center, where their season opening matinee game against Minnesota State would take place.

She wore long suit pants with a shiny black belt that hosted small golden details. On top was a classy backless solid black halter-top that tied around her neck. Her ginger hair cascaded down her shoulders and bounced with her walking pace.

Rutger caught up to her after holding the door for an elderly couple.

"You doing okay?" He asked Charlotte. She took another swig of her powerful drink turned in his direction, showing off her oversized opaque sunglasses.
