The gunshot echoed, a deafening roar that shattered the silence of the darkened streets. My heart stopped, a chilling numbness washing over me as I heard the gunshot.

- "No!" I shouted, wrenching my hand free from her grip.

- "Miss, you can't go there. It's dangerous. Please, come with me."

- "No, I have to help him. I can't lose him."

She grabbed my hand to stop me, but I pushed her away. She fell to the ground, confused, not understanding what had just happened. By the time she recovered, I was already gone. My legs carried me forward as fast as they could. I ran, praying he wasn't dead. When I arrived, I saw him still lying on the ground. He was still conscious, his eyes searching for mine, but the pain in them was undeniable. Each breath came ragged, shallow, and forced, his body visibly trembling as he fought to stay awake.

- "I'm... still here," he rasped, forcing a faint smile as his hand reached up to touch my cheek, smearing blood across my skin.

- "You're going to be okay, Deniel. I won't let anything happen to you" my voice cracked, but my words were fierce, filled with a desperation I couldn't contain.

- "We both know... I'm not walking out of this, love. Not with... not with this."

I didn't answer, only tightened my grip on him, as though holding him close enough could somehow keep him with me. Deniel's gaze softened as he looked at me, and he managed a faint chuckle, though it was laced with pain.

- "Why... are you making that face? You look... like I'm already gone."

- "Don't joke about this. I can't... I can't lose you, Deniel. I can't."

- "Hey... who's the one with a bullet in him? I think I've... earned the right to crack a joke or two."

Despite everything, a small, broken laugh escaped, a mixture of disbelief and grief. He grinned, his thumb brushing away a tear from my cheek, the motion painfully slow and weak.

- "There she is. My Paola... the girl who crashed into me outside that bookstore, remember?"

- "You made fun of me... for buying that book with a sad ending."

I could feel him slipping away, the warmth of his skin turning cold under my touch, his breaths growing weaker. Panic clawed at my heart as I leaned down, pressing my forehead against his, my voice breaking.

- "Deniel... please. You promised... you promised you'd always be with me."

- "I didn't... think I'd get shot by some soldier. Guess I overestimated myself." he laughed softly, though the sound was barely more than a breath.

Tears streamed down my face as I held him closer, trying to hold on to each second.

- "You're the only one I want, Deniel. I don't care about anything else... I just want you."

- "I wish... I could give you eternity, Paola. You... deserve so much more. You deserve... a life filled with happiness. Not... not with someone like me."

- "I don't want more. I just want you... us... the life we dreamed of."

- "Then remember me" he murmured. "Remember... all the good stuff. Remember the first time... I made you laugh, remember that day near the church... As long as you remember, it won't ... be gone."

My heart shattered as I realized the inevitability of his words. I didn't want to believe it, and didn't want to say goodbye.

- "I don't want to remember, Deniel" I whispered, my voice breaking. "I want you here."

- "I'll always... be with you, Paola. As long as you remember me... I'll be right here. Every laugh, every memory... that's where I'll stay." he said to me pointing to my heart.

- "I love you, Deniel. More than anything... more than life itself. I'll never forget you."

- "I love you too... my Paola."

I pressed my lips to his, pouring all of my love, my pain, my everything into that single kiss, as if it could somehow hold him to this world, as if it could make time stop, just for a moment longer. His lips were soft, but growing colder, and I could feel his life slipping away beneath my touch. When I finally pulled back, his eyes had closed, his chest still, and his hand fell limp in mine.

- "No... no!"

I cried a scream that ripped through the night with the intensity of my heartbreak. I clutched him closer, and my body was wracked with sobs as the reality of his death settled in, like a weight crushing me from the inside out. The night was silent, the world deaf to my pain, but I could feel something within me shatter, a wound deeper than any physical pain, a loss that tore my soul apart. Words slipped from my lips, a broken, whispered promise.

- "This love... will never fade away. The fire... will always burn."

As the words left my lips, a strange warmth began to flood through my body, a sensation unlike anything I felt before. My tears fell onto my hands, and as I looked down, I saw flames flickering across my fingers, but there was no pain. The fire licked at my skin, golden and bright, as if drawn from the very depths of my grief and love. My heart raced, and my mind was too numb to fully process what was happening. The fire danced along my arms, around my body, consuming my sorrow and rage, transforming it into a raw, pulsing energy. The fire grew, a blazing inferno that illuminated the darkness around me, a testament to the love and pain that had forged it. In that moment, I felt a sense of peace, a calm that settled over me as the fire pulsed through my veins. I looked down at Deniel's still form, my heart still breaking.

- "This fire... it's yours too. And I won't let it die."

As the flames continued to burn, I knew that my life would never be the same. I had lost the man I love, but in his place, he had left me with a strength that no one could ever take from me-a fire that would never fade, a love that would never die.
