Scarlett's POV
"Draven?" I muttered.
He laid me on the bed and took a seat next to me with a worried frown. "Yes?"
"Did I scare you?" I asked. He searched my eyes, reaching out and taking my hand in his, caressing my knuckles.
"More than words. If you saw the state you were in..." He trailed off, clenching his jaw. "I've never felt so much fear. When Jamison told me you were too far gone, I hardly kept it together."
I stared up at him, sensing there's something else he isn't saying—that he's hiding. Did witnessing me die for the first time upset him so much? Is there something else wrong with me that I'm unaware of?
"I think I'll take a shower." I sat upright to slide off the bed and escape this awkward situation. My feet only just hit the floor when his arms wrapped around my waist and spun me back around, earning a sharp gasp.
"Wait," he said, staring up at me from his sitting position on the edge of the bed. "What you said earlier..."
My throat swelled.
"I would kill myself to be with him."
"I don't fully remember what I said. That whole thing feels like a choppy blur," I lied, watching his face dim, yet he released me with a nod.
"I will set your clothes out." He stood, towering over my tiny frame. "And don't wait up, there are a few things I have to take care of." His hand cupped my face and he leaned down, placing a soft, lingering kiss on my forehead.
I smiled, throwing my arms around him while burying my face in his bare, chiseled chest. He hugged me tightly in return.
"Please, hurry," I mumbled.
"I'll be back as soon as I can, Red," he replied. I pushed myself on my toes and planted a light kiss on his lips.
From there, we parted ways. I headed for the bathroom and he the closet. Once I entered the room, I closed the door, turned on the water, then took off the robe the doctor generously gave to me after being threatened by Draven.
My nude body reflected in the mirror. I didn't find it very appealing until I spotted the marking on my neck, differing drastically from the one imprinted on me years ago. Instead of the crescent moon I used to wear shamefully, there was a paw print. However their canines conduct such intricate shapes so flawlessly is amazing to me, particularly because they start off as nasty bites that heal into such.
I stepped into the shower and closed the sliding door behind me, the heat of the water pounding against my sore, cold body. I stood beneath the water and closed my eyes, letting the warmth stream down my face, over my hair, and across my body.
After many moments of standing in silence, I began washing myself. The bathroom door opened seconds later and I couldn't help but open the door to peek out, my gaze landing on Draven as he draped a towel over the bar attached to the shower door.
His eyes darted over seeing the door slide open and his gaze flickered across my soap covered body, his figure going rigid. We stood inches apart, nothing but the wall of the tub between us. My straightened, wet hair fell over my shoulders, resting over my collar, extending past my breasts and covering my areola's from exposure to the cold air I just let in. Suds covered my skin and my poorly covered nude figure seemingly mesmerized him.
