Espresso's Pov

"He's a Vanillian. Shouldn't he be held in the Vanilla Kingdom?"

"And if he wakes mid-flight and he's hostile? What then? And his crimes were committed here, in the Republic, not in the Vanilla Kingdom."

"But..."

"Is he stuck in a coma? When's he going to wake up?"

As I stirred awake, the voices of several cookies faded in. Their words were slurred and hazy, going in one ear and out the other.

So soft... I snuggled into the silky fabric and fluffy pillow.

"I'll check on him. Please, calm down," Another person said. This time, I could tell it belonged to Clotted Cream.

I groaned, burying into the heaven of blankets and pillows. Ugh...so annoying. Can't they see I'm sleeping?

....

Wait, SLEEPING?!

I woke up in an instant, my eyes widening as memories flooded in. Frantically, I looked around. I was in a cost room—one with stone walls and floors. There was an oak desk and chair in the corner, a baby-blue rug, and a large window. I had been sleeping on a cream-colored bed with thick white blankets and pale blue pillows with gold lining.

When I was unconscious, someone also came and changed me into a loose white shirt and sweatpants. The fabric was nice and clean, whereas my previous clothes were likely not. Unfortunately, all the items I was carrying for backup have probably been discovered and examined by now.

How many days has it been?

Finally awake, The voice chuckled in my head, now clearer than ever.

"Yes, and ready to save this pathetic world from themselves," I murmured, striding over to the large window.

Maybe try to get out first?

I leaned closer to the glass, watching the lapping water below. On closer inspection, I could see a magic spell cast on the glass, preventing it from shattering normally.

Nothing a little coffee magic can't handle.

I flexed my hand, a metal shackle on my wrist catching my eye. It was to freeze my magic -I'd recognize this device anywhere. How bothersome, but if I channel enough mana it could self-destruct.

The metal door swung open from behind me, and I turned around. Clotted Cream strolled in with Financier, and their eyebrows lifted slightly as if surprised to see me awake. That expression quickly settled into caution and Financier shut the door behind them.

"You're awake." Clotted Cream said, his tone wary.

"Mnh, I woke up a few moments ago," I replied calmly, turning away from the window. I plopped down on the wooden chair, crossing my legs. I held up my arm, "A magic blocker, seriously? Did you put it on me?"

"A guard did. I'm sure you understand why we took such measurements," Clotted Cream answered.

"Espresso, you committed several crimes two moons ago. Some include the murder of one paladin, injuries ranging from minor to several inflicted on paladins and the nine other cookies present in the garden, and property damage. The crimes we'll you'll be judged for don't include the ones done while you were in the Cookies of Darkness." Clotted Cream bombed back his disheveled hair, the blonde locks falling over his eyes, "But we might. Many cookies pressuring us to do so."
