Aradhana sat alone in the dimly lit newsroom, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. The footage from the USB drive played on her screen, the grainy black-and-white video showing a shadowy figure leaving a package at her doorstep.
Her stomach twisted. Someone was watching her.
"Who are you?" she whispered to herself, rewinding the footage. The man was careful—his face never fully visible. But something about the way he moved, the slight limp in his stride, felt familiar.
She sighed, pressing her fingers against her temples. A dull ache pulsed behind her eyes, the exhaustion of the last few days weighing on her. It wasn't just the danger or the threats—it was something else. A strange fatigue. A persistent queasiness that had lingered since morning.
She shook it off. Now wasn't the time to overthink.
Her phone buzzed.
Reyansh: "Done with work? I'm coming to get you."
A small smile tugged at her lips. No matter how chaotic things became, Reyansh was always her anchor.
Aradhana: "I'll be outside in 5."
She shut her laptop and grabbed her things, still unable to shake off the feeling that someone was watching her.
The drive back to their apartment was quiet, but Reyansh kept glancing at her from the driver's seat.
"You're thinking too much again," he finally said, his fingers tapping the steering wheel.
She let out a soft chuckle. "Is that your professional opinion, Agent Lamba?"
"It's my husband opinion," he corrected. "You've been distant since this morning."
She hesitated. Should she tell him? The nausea, the exhaustion, the way her body felt different lately?
She wasn't sure yet, and until she was, she didn't want to worry him.
So she shook her head. "Just tired. It's been a long day."
Reyansh studied her for a moment before nodding. "Then let's get home."
Once inside, Aradhana kicked off her heels and collapsed onto the couch. Reyansh sat beside her, stretching his arm across the backrest, pulling her closer.
"Bad day?" he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.
She closed her eyes, letting his warmth surround her. "Just...a lot on my mind."
His fingers traced slow circles on her arm. "Want to talk about it?"
She hesitated. Instead of answering, she turned to him, her gaze locking onto his. His dark eyes, always filled with intensity, softened as he studied her.
"Not right now," she whispered.
His lips curled into a small smirk. "What do you want to do then?"
Her fingers slid into his hair as she leaned closer. "I want to forget everything for a while."
Reyansh didn't need any more encouragement.

He pulled her onto his lap, his hands settling on her waist as his lips found hers. The kiss was slow at first—teasing, gentle, making her forget everything except the way he felt.
His fingers traced the curve of her back, slipping beneath the fabric of her blouse. She gasped as his lips moved down her jaw, then lower, pressing warm kisses along the sensitive skin of her neck.
"Rey," she breathed, her nails digging into his shoulders.
He chuckled against her skin. "Hmm?"
She shivered. "Less talking."
He grinned but obeyed, lifting her effortlessly and carrying her toward their bedroom.
The world outside their apartment no longer existed. There were no threats, no dangers—just them, wrapped in each other.

Aradhana woke up tangled in the sheets, Reyansh's arm draped possessively around her waist. Sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a golden glow on his sleeping face.
She watched him, her fingers tracing the faint scar near his jaw. He looked peaceful, completely unaware of the storm that was brewing in her mind.
She slowly slipped out of bed, wrapping herself in one of his shirts before heading to the bathroom.
The moment she stood up, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her.
She gripped the dresser for balance, blinking rapidly.
Not now. Not today.
Her stomach churned, the nausea hitting her in full force. She barely made it to the sink before she gagged.
Minutes later, she wiped her mouth and stared at her reflection.
A thought formed in her mind, one she had been pushing away for days.
Could I be...?
Her hands unconsciously moved to her stomach.
She wasn't sure yet. But something inside her told her that everything was about to change.
