Chapter One Reaping Souls

-----------------------------------------

Griffin's POV

The day I had been dreading has come. The day of the 'Celebration'. Only for us girls its not a celebration; its a horrible nightmare. Today within an hour, 192 unfortunate girls will walk towards their deaths. I've been freaking out ever since a few weeks ago when I realized every competition has a twist. Adelyn tried to calm me down, but it was no use. That is until Adelyn reminded me that we have special people that go to these competitions for us. But that still didn't settle the uneasy feeling I had.

Right at this moment, I was sitting in front of the mirror applying my make-up. I was wearing a red dress that was an acceptable length. I also wore high heels while my friend quickly put on casual jeans and an above-average-Ade-standard-shirt. I scowled at her.

"Ade! We have to go in our best clothes," I reprimanded. "If we're going to go die, we die in style."

Ade rolled her eyes at me. "These are the best clothes I've got, technically this counts."

I looked at her, exasperated. I quickly glanced at the watched and widened at the time.

"Hurry Ade! We gotta go!"

We rushed out the house and quickly ran towards the gathering. Quickly signing in, we settled into the area where the least amount of attention is drawn to.

"Oh my god Griff, look at that girl. No self-respect whatsoever." Ade groaned.

"Shush, I see Superior Marlyn. Its about to start." I said nervously. I watched as I see the breathtaking reaper walk confidently onto the stage. With blonde hair and innocent blue eyes, I see many guys from our coven eyeing her like candy.

"She's so beautiful." I muttered.

"What?" I turned to Ade. "Nothing," she replied quickly. Well then. I could've sworn she said "Well, she isn't human."

I turned back to Superior Marlyn and listened as she read the traditional speech.

"Welcome to the Celebration, Bluejay Coven! We gather here today to celebrate the choosing of the prince's new wife. This year- as you all might of heard- we have twice the amount of people entering the competition." she paused as we saw the flash of guilt in her eyes.

"I am going to go onto the choosing." The whole coven's bodies were tensed in anticipation as Superior Marlyn smiled faintly at us.

"Let us begin the reaping!" she declared.

I tensed as I watched her choose four slips of paper with names. We all took a deep breath as we awaited for the unlucky girls.

"Ariana Jones, Zoe Grand, Lia Grand and Mana Smith." Large, enraged cries from the victim's families broke out throughout the gathering.

"Now; I ask you, Bluejays. Who is willing to take their place or wanting to take their place?"

I held my breath. This is the time where the chosen fighters will volunteer for these girls. As I looked around the crowd, I saw the three blonde demons stand up.

"They probably want to get the prince," I muttered bitterly. Suddenly, Ade stood up.

"What the hell are you doing Ade!?" I whispered furiously. But she ignored me and stood up. Glaring at Superior Marlyn,

"I will take Mana's place." she declared.

Adelyn's POV

I watched with immense guilt as I watched Griff run around getting ready for the reaping of souls. That's what this 'Day of Celebration' really is. Picking innocent girls to go out and fight a bloodthirsty battle just to win the prince's hand in marriage. Our whole kingdom absolutely detests the idea; besides those few sickening people that take pride in watching manslaughters occur.
