Chapter 5
Willow's POV
We were speeding down an empty highway with three trucks in pursuit, and they were gaining fast. Riley was growling, his hands clutched on the steering wheel while my eyes were glued on the rear view mirror, watching them chase us down.
Why is this happening? Why now?
"Damn it! Why'd the witch wait to tell us?!" Riley shouted, gaining my attention. "Did she fucking plan this?!"
"Riley please..." I reached for him but stopped when I noticed his eyes dilating and his chest rising and falling at an alarming rate. He was losing control. "I don't think she had anything to do with this..."
"Of course she did!" He growled.
My eyes widened and I scooted closer to the door, away from Riley. Never has he ever growled at me or yelled at me when he was furious. His voice sounded venomous when he growled, and it scared me, and he knew that. He knew how much it frightened me. Yeah, I survived three years on my own and I should be used to the scary things, but I wasn't. I hadn't had to deal with anything and that's why I was still scared of being the Luna.
Riley didn't pay attention to my movements. He just kept growling and speeding until taking a sharp turn on a dirt road
"Riley." I whispered. "Maybe they just want to pass us?" I knew it was unlikely. I mean obviously, they were right on our tail. When Riley went into the left lane one of the cars would follow us into that lane. It was the same with the right lane.
"Willow, I love you, but I need you to be quiet." He growled. "I'm trying to concentrate."
"I'm just trying to calm you down. You're losing-" His head snapped to me and I yelped. His face was...frightening, contorted as he struggled to stop himself from shifting while he sped down the highway.
"Willow!" He barked, his alpha voice seeping through. "Just be quiet!" He made a sharp turn, forcing me to lean into the door. But not that it mattered, I was already huddled by it, not wanting Riley to snap because I could be annoying the shit out of him.
We continued to speed, and finally we accelerated through the exit.
"Riley! We did it!" I shouted, smiling when I spotted some cars ahead of us. "Maybe they'll stop when they notice there's humans ahead-" I stopped mid sentence when I turned my attention to my husband. His eyes were wide, his face pale, and it scared me. "Riley?"
"Shit..." He whispered, turning his head towards his side window. I followed his gaze and my eyes widened. One of the black trucks was right there with their window rolled down, their deathly pale passenger watching us with a grin.
"Who are they?" I whispered, watching the passenger chat with the driver.
"Vampires..." Riley turned to me. "Willow, baby, I need you to do something for me, okay? Swear you'll do it."
"D-do what?"
"You need to swear first baby." He turned his attention back to the road.
What did he want me to do? It couldn't be anything bad, right? No, it couldn't. Riley wouldn't put us in anymore danger.
"Okay, I swear."
He looked at me with his devious grin, making butterflies flutter in my stomach but also making alarms sound off in my head. What did I just swear to? "I need you to take the wheel."
"What? Riley, what are you-" His hands flew up, letting go of the wheel and making fear spike up in me. I immediately leaned forward, grabbing onto the wheel with wide eyes as I kept my eyes on the road to keep us from crashing. "Riley?! What the hell?!"
"Sorry baby." He laughed. "This needs to happen."
"And what's that?" I turned to him, but he only continued to grin. But then he unbuckled and threw open his door.
Keep in mind that we were still speeding.
"I need to teach these ass holes a thing or two about messing with an alpha."
"Riley, don't you dare-"
Of course, he ignored me. He jumped out of the car, grabbing onto the passenger door and reaching his hand in before grabbing the vampire in the passenger seat and yanking him out. The man screamed as he tumbled out.
"Riley you shit head!" I screamed, gluing my eyes to the road to keep from crashing. "Are you crazy?!"
"Crazy for you babe!" He shouted.
I quickly glanced over at him and saw him climbing through the window. "Riley?! I swear if you die!"
There was a loud hiss and a growl, and before I knew it there was a large wolf in the truck, wrestling with vampires popping from the back seats.
A relieved smile crossed my face, but it soon vanished. One of the vampires pulled out a knife that sent a dreadful shiver down my spine.
Silver.
"Riley!" I screamed before swerving around a car and getting right next to the truck. "Watch out-"
I was too late.
A painful howl rang out, piercing my ears. I watched with horror filled eyes as the vampire stabbed Riley's shoulder, smirking.
"Riley!" I cried.
What can I do? He's in a whole other car. I can't just jump out of our car. If not only be in the way of Riley but I'd get us both killed.
Unless....
I continued to watch, my grip tightening on the wheel, as the vampire pulled out the knife and aimed again to stab.
And then I did it.
I turned the car sharply, crashing into the truck. The metal screeched as both cars grinned against each other.
"Riley! Come on!"
My face must've looked like something else, because not only were the vampires taken aback, but so was Riley.
After a moment, Riley knocked down some more vampires before jumping from the truck into the car, quickly climbing over me and curling into a ball in the passenger seat. Then I stepped onto the gas, grinding more into the truck until it actually tipped over.
My eyes were wide, but I quickly sped away as the ones who attacked us began to crawl out of their vehicle.
I nervously looked over at Riley's wolf as I took the next exit.
'It's okay baby.' I heard him whisper in my head. 'I'm fine, and you did good.'
I sighed in relief and continued to drive, glancing in the rear view mirror and more than happy when the other trucks stopped their pursuit.
FINALLY! Okay, I know this chapter is super stupid but honestly I'm tired and exhausted and sick so I'm gonna go!
