Katherine stared out the old and dusty windows and cringed internally. You'd think that since her parents were paying nearly a hundred thousand dollars for her to be attending this school they could at least clean the windows. She scoffed at the thought and her sister, if she could even be called that anymore, raised an eyebrow at her in question. Katherine smiled softly and shook her head, Charity would just tell her to focus on the boring professor in the front of the room even though Charity probably wasn't focusing on the professor either. She was hypocritical that way and it drove Katherine nuts. She didn't let that bother her long before her thoughts began to stray again and she looked back out towards the window to day dream.
If Katherine was being completely honest with herself she knew that if her parents weren't paying for her schooling and expecting her to be there, she would be long gone in the mountains hiking or back packing across Europe. She hated being stuck in a classroom on a beautiful day like the one today had become. She hated feeling trapped in general ever since that night...
Quickly she shook the thoughts out of her head and removed her left hand from the scar on her forehead between her eyebrows she had been unintentionally tracing. She also noticed that her right hand had been tightly gripping the scar on her left thigh, the one that looked like teeth marks. However the doctors had told her that it was merely glass shards so she had never actually thought more into. Except when her thoughts were allowed to wander like they were today.
Minutes dragged on like hours but eventually the professor dismissed the class and Katherine couldn't be out of there fast enough. Quickly she swept all of her belongings into her bag and threw it over her shoulder before nearly running out of the ancient class room and away from her ancient professor.
"Katherine, slow down," Charity panted as she chased after her free spirited twin. Charity shook her head when she caught up to her and quickly looped her arm through Katherine's so she couldn't run away again. The two girls smiled and politely made small talk to those they were passing as they made their way to their dorm room. As soon as she walked through the door Katherine threw her bag to the floor and collapsed onto her bed.
"What are you doing tonight?" Charity called from the bathroom. Katherine glanced up and saw her twin fluffing up her hair and fixing her lipstick. She rolled her eyes and let her head fall back onto her bed.
"Sleeping. Reading. Not going out with you. All of the above sound like good plans to me," Katherine muffled into her blankets as she struggled to pull her jeans off and her brown leather jacket before wrapping her black comforter around her. She signed in happiness before closing her hazel eyes, hoping that Charity would just leave already so she could stop pretending she was happy with her sister. Katherine hadn't been happy with her life in general for awhile actually and Charity couldn't understand why.
Charity sneered into the bathroom mirror. Ever since that night 2 years ago Katherine had become a prude in just about everything. She had dropped the sorority they had joined, she had sworn off boys, she never drank, and she never went out anymore. It wasn't like Charity had know the boys had been drinking and forced Katherine into the car... However she couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt because she had been the one that forced Katherine out that night. But that was quickly wiped away when she thought about how lame Katherine had been ever since then. A little car accident didn't suddenly make a person became somebody else, Katherine was just being dramatic and milking the situation for all she could and their parents were more than willing to give into her childish ways.
"Look Kathy..." Katherine crinkled her nose at the obnoxious nick name that her twin used and knew she hated, "... it's our like our last week here and there's only so many parties left. And I know for a fact you won't be going to any parties when we get home because of mom and dad. So just come out tonight, okay? You don't have to drink, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do, and I won't leave your side."
'Yeah, right.' Katherine scoffed. Instead of answering Charity, Katherine buried herself deeper into her blankets and started snoring rather loudly. Charity would get the point hopefully and leave her alone.
And just like Katherine thought she would Charity muttered something like sounded like 'whatever' under her breath before slamming their dorm room door behind her. The sound echoed down the long school hallways and Katherine could faintly hear Charity's heels clicking for the next few moments before she got far enough away.
Quickly Katherine hopped out of bed and slipped her shirt and bra off. Swiftly she put a sports bra on and a white tank top, as well as a black pair of Nike running shorts. She slipped on her running shoes and then threw her hair up into a pony tail. She placed her headphones into her ears and then plugged them into her phone and stepped out of her dorm into the empty hallway.
Most of the girls had already gone home for summer break, there was just the remaining seniors who were tying up the end of the classes so they could be done forever and those like Katherine that had to play catch up because they had started the semester later than everybody else. Finally after a long and exhausting year Katherine would be done at this school and would be free to do what she wanted with the rest of her life because next week she would be 18. She didn't care if her parents wanted her to go to college.
Katherine knew that she was meant for something more than a mundane life of schooling.
She just didn't know how right she was.
