Katherine sat silently with her head in her good hand. He knew her name. She knew that the people who had kidnapped her were stalkers but for some reason the fact that Elias knew her name didn't bother her. And that bothered her. It bothered her that she felt so comfortable taking his hand. It bothered her that she felt the conversation on the walk back was natural. It bothered her that she accepted to let him carry her when he asked. Everything right now bothered her.
None of this situation was making any sense to her. Why were her captors being so nice to her if all they planned to do was kill her? Maybe Elias had been telling the truth when he said he would let her go. That thought disappointed her a little bit and she quickly let out a sigh in frustration. That thought should make her ecstatic, not disappoint her for god sake!
What the hell was going on with Katherine's emotions? First she willingly walks back with this stranger, a very handsome one at that, to where she was being held hostage. And now she was sitting her hoping that he would come back and talk to her. It was like she craved his presence around her and that just made her even more frustrated.
"Don't think too hard. I'm not sure your body could handle much more." Katherine jumped, startled by the noise. Elias stood at the bedroom door, a tray of steaming food in his arms, with a smirk on his face. She nervously raised an eyebrow at him. Did he honestly think she would eat anything that he gave her? She may have been stupid for jumping out of the tree but she was not stupid enough to eat anything that he gave her. Even if that stupid smirk on his face did make her knees weak.
"No. Thank you." She spoke softly, turned her head away from him, and stared down at the cast on her arm. It looked to be done by a real doctor yet she had seen nobody else but Elias since she had got here. Where were the other two men that had taken her from her home?
"If you don't eat you will get sick. That is what my father said--" Elias quickly cut himself off. He did not want her to know that there were others around. If she knew others were around she would go looking for them and they would not take kindly to a human being on pack land.
"I said no. Don't you know what no means?" She didn't look up but instead turned on her side, the side facing away from him, and laid down. Normally Katherine wasn't a rude person but she felt she had every right to be considering the situation.
Elias let out a growl under his breath and backed out of the room. He was not used to being told no and he was not used to having to take care of a mate. How was he supposed to take care of her if she wouldn't even let him? And what was with the attitude? If it weren't for him the girl would've been dead two years ago. Sighing he shook his head and then turned away from her tiny frame.
'You don't take care of her Elias, you make sure she heals and then get her the hell out of here.' He reminded himself again as he left the room went back down to the kitchen.
His sister Sicily was smirking from across the island counter as she finished washing up the last of the dishes she had dirtied to cook the girl a meal. Even though she did not want the human here at all she could not help but feel some empathy for her. She couldn't imagine the feelings of confusion and despair that must be fueling the emotions of the young girl.
"Smart girl. I wouldn't take food from a stranger either." Sicily murmured as she wiped her hands on a dish towel. She had heard the entire conversation from the kitchen and she couldn't help admire the spunk that this tiny human had.
Even when she remained unconscious Sicily had noticed that the girl seemed to be stronger than her tiny frame put out. Sicily also couldn't help but notice the large bite mark that had been scared into her pale thigh. While Sicily had not been there that night two years ago she knew the stories and she knew this girl had been put through the ringer.
"She's not going to seem so smart when she starves to death," Elias muttered darkly as he placed the tray down on the counter and sat on one of the counter seats. While he was used to having his sister come over and cook meals for him he was not used to her sticking around to have conversation.
He knew that ever since that night two years ago his sister had lost favor in him, and for good reason too. He knew what he was doing was incredibly wrong and stupid but he couldn't help but want to keep doing things that involved Katherine. He couldn't just stand by and let his mate die at the hands of The Others'. He would do everything in his power to make sure her fate was not twinged by their tainted hands like his and his siblings was.
"Why don't you go run patrol and I'll try to get her to eat?" Elias quickly shook his head no and stared darkly at his sister. She couldn't be trusted around Katherine. For all he knew Sicily would take her to The Others' herself.
"Oh I'm glad you think so highly of me brother," Sicily snorted as he practically blasted his thoughts at her. "Bryson needs help Elias. For the sake of you helping my mate, I will help yours." She spoke sincerely towards her brother. Elias knew that if he was going to make his pack believe nothing was up he would have to work like he did before Katherine was here. That meant attending every morning patrol with Bryson. He narrowed his eyes at his younger sister and set his lips in a grim line.
"If anything happens to her Sicily I swear to the moon--"
"Oh shut up and go. You're already late." Sicily scooted her brother out of the room and towards the front door. She would make sure no harm came to the sleeping human upstairs.
Elias ignored that fact that his wolf became ill tempered at the thought of leaving their mate upstairs and allowed Sicily to push him out the door. He knew it was for the best that he leave the house and he knew it was for the best that Sicily take care of the girl. If anyone had a cold shoulder to be afraid of it was Sicily.
And he was sure she would make it extra icy for the human girl upstairs.
