Rogue was nervous about meeting Red's mother and she tried telling herself it wasn't a big deal. After all, she and Red weren't even "a thing." Period.
Or are we?
She tried to relax on the way to Aurora's house but couldn't shake the anxiety bubbling in her belly. Red had tried to assure her his mom was a very nice lady, but Rogue had met a few biker moms in her time and they were all crazy.
Eventually she snuggled into Red's back, wrapped herself a little tighter around his torso and closed her eyes. Immediately Rogue felt better. There was something about him that calmed her. He felt solid against her body, stable and safe. He felt like home.As much as Red had wanted to take care of the mess from the previous night's attack, Rogue had been extremely whiny about her "fucked up" eyes, and he had simply had enough of it. After enduring two solid minutes of her complaining, Red put her in a fireman's lift and carried her out the front door, dropping her unceremoniously onto the ground beside his bike. It had been a gentle drop, however, as he was still cautious of her probable concussion.
"What about the body?" Rogue asked, dusting off her jeans as she got up.
"I'll deal with it when we get back."
He strapped on his helmet and fired up the bike. It's engine gave a low, meaty growl and Rogue felt a warm feeling in her stomach. She hopped on behind Red and quickly threw her hair up in a messy knot. Helmet on, she was ready to go. Red turned around once she was settled and leaned in for a kiss. She closed her eyes and met his lips, tingles spreading through her body. Rogue spent the rest of the ride with her head against Red's back, eyes closed, smiling into his soft leather cut. She didn't open her eyes again until they were within city limits and Red had to start gearing down for a red light. Despite her relaxed state there was still a small knot of discomfort in her tummy. She could feel herself growing tense, slowly and steadily tightening her grip on Red's torso. At their last red light before turning left into an older residential area Red reached back for her hand. Rogue laced her fingers with his and he gave her a reassuring squeeze.
Finally they arrived at Red's mother's house. It was small and obviously quite old, but in great condition. It looked like a little cottage, with the ivy crawling up the front out of the flower beds. Aurora kept her garden well tended but it had a very organic, wild look to it, unlike traditional flower gardens. Rogue recognized a lot of different herbs growing amongst the flowers as well. As soon as she stepped through the front gate the little knot of nerves dissolved and she felt completely calm. More than that, she felt welcome. An easy smile snuck it's way across her face as she took a deep breath of the fresh garden air. Red came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her gently. Brushing her hair from her neck he leaned down and kissed her sweetly behind her ear.
"Are you okay?"
She nodded, still smiling, and took his hands from her waist. She turned around to face him and placed his arms around her again, throwing her own around his neck. Red smiled and she met it with her own happy mouth, pushing her fingers through his short hair, pulling him closer. Their kiss had quickly gone from happy to passionate and their hands were traveling each other hungrily. Suddenly, Red pulled back.
"She's watching us." He said, looking around Rogue's head at the living room window, eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Rogue's face got pink. Red cupped her cheek.
"Don't worry about it. This is going to make her stupid happy."
Rogue laughed softly, embarrassed, and Red kissed her again as the front door of his mother's house opened and Aurora stepped out.
"Alaric, don't you smother the poor girl. Come here, Elodie, let me get a look at you." She was beaming and holding her arms out in welcome. Rogue obeyed, but not before she shot an accusing glance at Red.
How does she know my name?
Red ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath, then followed Rogue and his mother up the front steps.
