Rogue's kitchen was well stocked, so Red had no problem finding everything he needed to cook breakfast. He'd just finished frying up the bacon and was starting on the eggs when Rogue emerged sleepily from her bedroom. She was rubbing her eyes and all Red could do was stare at her. Even with messy bed head she was a stunner. He almost dropped his spatula when he noticed she had changed out of the previous day's outfit and into his shirt. Only his shirt. Red gave himself a mental slap and smiled at Rogue.
"You're just in time to tell me how you want your eggs."
She smiled back shyly.
"Over easy, please."
Rogue cautiously approached the counter near the stove. Red saw her movement through his peripherals and reached out with one arm to pull her into his side. He kissed the top of her head, and she nuzzled in closer, encircling both her arms around him. Red felt himself relax into the embrace. They stayed like that until he had to flip Rogue's eggs. Then he dished her up some bacon, eggs and orange slices and placed it on the small table.
Rogue sat down at her plate and her stomach growled.
"I don't know how long it's been since someone cooked for me." She stated.
That was the last of her talking though, because she was too busy shovelling food into her face. Red had barely sat down with his own food and she was already half finished. A quiet laugh slipped past Red's lips before he could check it. Rogue's head snapped up and she glared at him.
"What?"
"Sorry," he chuckled again. "You just seem to really like the food. It's cute."
She smiled back at him, but it was more of a "who you calling cute? I'm deadly," smile.
"Besides," Red continued. "You should eat well. After last night your body's gonna need some TLC."
"Ughhhh," Rogue groaned dramatically, dropping her fork and letting her head fall into her hands, messy curls falling over her shoulders. "Don't remind me."
Red leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, looking at her sternly.
"We're going to talk about this. Whether you like it or not."
Rogue shot him a sour look from under her hands.
"Not now," Red reassured her, unfolding his arms and grabbing his fork off the table. "After breakfast. We have business to take care of."
Rogue let out a big breath and picked up her fork also.
"This is really good, by the way. Thank you for making breakfast."
They smiled at each other and Red watched as the green in her eyes made room for growing yellow.
"Elodie?"
"Yeah?"
"Your eyes are yellow."
"What? No they aren't. Go back to sleep." She resumed eating.
"Go look, Rogue. I'm not joking."
She got up abruptly and started chirping him on the way to her bedroom.
"Seriously, Red, no one has yellow eyes. I think you're losing - oh my god!"
Red followed and stood behind her as she stared at her newly yellow eyes in the mirror. The only green left on her irises was a think dark band on the very outer edge.
"Red... What the fuck?"
Red placed his hands supportively on her shoulders and met her gaze in the mirror.
"I think they're beautiful, El."
She let out a loud sigh.
"Maybe, but that doesn't make this less weird."
Red slid his hands down her arms and circled them around her waist, pulling her closer, and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"I know someone who might be able to help."
Rogue leaned her cheek against his and closed her eyes.
"Who could possibly know anything about this shit?"
"My mother."
