Avalon's P.O.V

I ran into the school and into the auditorium, flag still in hand, and closed the door. This is where the band gathered because the band room was too small. Nobody was in here since the band was outside practicing and the guard was in the bathroom doing their hair and makeup. I usually went outside and practiced a bit on my own since it didn't take me nearly as long to get ready as it did for the other girls. However, nothing like what had just occurred had ever happened to me before.

To say that I was scared was an understatement. Luke was naturally intimidating with his broad shoulders, lip ring, piercing blue eyes and at least over six foot frame. To make matters worse, I was one of the band nerds who he loved to pick on so much, so naturally I was terrified of him.

I ran down the steps of the stage and sat at the grand piano, a place where I usually went when I was stressed. I softly placed my fingers on the keys and began playing one of my favorite songs. My fingers slid from one key to the next with ease as I waited for the right timing. Since no one was in the audi, I might as well sing along.

When I see your smile

The tears rolling down my face

I can't replace

And now that I'm strong I have figured out

How this world turns cold

And it breaks through my soul

And I know, I'll find, deep inside me

I can be the one

I will never let you fall

I'll stand up with you forever

I'll be there for you through it all

Even if saving you sends me to heaven.

"That song makes me cry every time." I looked up from the keys and saw Scarlett watching me, leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed. I gave her a smile as I stopped playing and sighed, Scarlett beginning to make her way over to me. She sat down next to me, making me turn my back to her to she could french braid my hair. I couldn't do it, and she's the only person I trusted with my hair enough to mess with it. Plus, she always did my hair for guard.

"So what was going on outside?" Scarlett questioned, causing me to turn and look at her, but she quickly turned me back so she could keep doing my hair.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I blushed, embarrassed at the fact that she saw the flag crash on my head and that she saw how awkward I was during my encounter with Luke. I heard her laugh behind me as she tugged at a piece of my long, golden hair.

"Avalon, I saw everything. The way he comforted you when you got hurt, the way he offered to help you get ice, the way he practically lifted you off the ground, and the way you looked at him. You looked so..."

"Terrified, yes," I interrupted. "Scarlett, this is Luke Hemmings you're talking about. He hates everyone in the band, including me. He probably didn't even know who I was."

She turned me around after she tied the braid together so I was facing her on the piano bench. She had a small smile on her face, hiding her florescent braces, and her chocolate brown eyes gleamed with hope through her thick rimmed glasses.

"Well maybe he's turned a new leaf," she shrugged. I involuntarily scoffed at her.

"Yeah, I doubt that," I said, shocked at the fact that she would even say that. She let out a tiny laugh and stood up, reaching her hand out for me to take.
