Prolouge: Remembrance

"I will never forget you"

It had been about a year since you had been here.

Everything looked just the way you had left it, and surprisingly despite not being touched by you at all in the past year nothing had any dust on it.

Looking around your old apartment kinda gave you a nostalgic and sad feeling, you remembered how simple your life was, or.... At least you were starting too.

But that was the entire reason that Kaneki had brought you here. So that you would remember who you were.

When he had told you the truth, that he had kidnapped you, simply put it scared the fuck out of you.

For the following few day after he told you, you wouldn't eat, barely slept, and didn't speak a word.

You asked yourself over and over "why do I care so much about him, when he kidnapped me?"

But then it hit you, harder than a car driving 80 mph hits a brick wall.

"No one else ever cared for me this way"

Your parents weren't there to love you, the car accident made sure of that, and even your cat died with them.

The only other person you had in the world before Kaneki kidnapped you was your best friend, but a lot of the times she was busy with Hide.

You were truly and utterly alone in the world before Kaneki came around, and even though he was a total asshole sometimes, you learned to forgive and respect him.

Not only because you loved him, but because he told you the truth, with you not having any memories, he could have easily told you lies that made him seem like a magnificent person devoid of flaws.

He could have told you anything he wanted to, and you would have had no choice but to believe it.

And you truly loved him for that.

You felt a small tug on your sleeve and looked down to meet the bright eyes of Kaede.

"What are you thinking about Mommy?" He questioned with a tilt of his head.

"Nothing baby, I was just remembering some stuff", you replied easily with a small smile.

"Okay, well take your time I'll go wait at the door with dad, just shout if you need anything" he gave you a kiss on the cheek and then ran off.

You didn't understand how he had come to be so mature at such a young age, but you were greatful for it.

You took one more look around your old apartment before turning on your heel and walking out of the door.

When you got there, Kaneki looked at you skeptically.

"Done already?" He asked.

You nodded with a bright smile on your face. "Every thing I have that's worth remembering is outside, there's no reason to care about that place anymore"

And so, without a single look back, you and your family walked away from your past to start a new future together.
