A FEW YEARS LATER
Ari POV
The soft hum of the city buzzed outside the towering glass windows of Heeseung's office. Everything about the room screamed sophistication, from the leather chairs to the modern art pieces lining the walls. It was so him, refined yet approachable.
I walked in with a stack of files pressed against my chest, balancing the weight of my workload and the relentless pull of my gaze toward the man sitting at the desk. He looked up as I entered, his sharp features softening the moment his eyes landed on me.
"Good morning, Mr. Lee," I teased, adding just the faintest edge of playfulness to my tone as I set the files down.
He leaned back in his chair, his suit jacket stretching over his shoulders. "You know I hate it when you call me that," he replied, his voice warm but firm.
"Which is why I do it," I shot back, unable to suppress a smile.
Heeseung had always been magnetic, but seeing him in his element, running the empire he'd built, only amplified that. It was hard not to get distracted by the way his sleeves were rolled up just enough to reveal his toned forearms or the way his lips quirked up in that effortless smirk he knew drove me crazy.
"Anything else I need to know before the board meeting?" he asked, his gaze locked on mine.
I flipped open the top file, skimming through the notes to keep myself focused. "Just the usual updates. I've outlined the key points for you."
"Of course, you have," he murmured, standing up and stepping around the desk. My heart skipped a beat as he closed the distance between us, the warmth of his presence making it harder to focus on anything but him.
"You've been working too hard," he said softly, his fingers brushing against my hand as he took the file from me.
"I can handle it," I replied quickly, though my voice wavered slightly. His touch always had a way of undoing me.
Heeseung POV
Ari always claimed she could handle everything—and she could. She was brilliant, efficient, and endlessly determined. But that didn't mean I didn't notice the little furrow in her brow when she was overwhelmed or the way her shoulders tensed after a long day.
I reached out, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She froze for a moment, her lips parting as if to say something, but I didn't let her.
"You're too good to me," I said, my voice low enough that only she could hear.
Her cheeks flushed, and she dropped her gaze, fiddling with the edge of the file in her hands. It was a rare sight—seeing Ari flustered—and I relished every second of it.
I stepped closer, watching her reaction carefully. "Why don't you sit?" I suggested, guiding her to the edge of the desk.
She hesitated, but when I placed my hands gently on her waist, she let me guide her. Her breath hitched as I pulled her closer, my thumbs brushing against her sides.
"Heeseung, we have work to do," she said softly, though the way her voice trembled told me she wasn't as focused on work as she claimed.
I leaned in, close enough that I could feel the warmth of her breath. "This is important work," I murmured, letting my lips brush against her ear.
Ari POV
I was unraveling under his touch. He always knew exactly what to say, how to move, how to make me forget everything but him.
"Heeseung, someone could walk in," I whispered, though the protest sounded weak even to my ears.
He pulled back just enough to meet my gaze, his eyes dark and full of mischief. "Let them," he said, his voice low and teasing.
Before I could respond, he guided me into his lap, his hands firm but gentle as they settled on my thighs. My heart raced, my mind struggling to keep up with the sensations flooding my body.
"You've been running yourself ragged," he said, his tone soft but commanding. "It's time someone took care of you for a change."
I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the heat building between us as his hands slid higher. "Heeseung..."
His smirk widened. "Yes, love?"
The way he said it, so casual yet intimate, made my pulse quicken. My breath hitched as his fingers brushed against the edge of my skirt, his touch sending sparks across my skin.
Heeseung POV
Watching Ari fall apart in my arms was a sight I'd never get tired of. She always tried to be composed, to keep her guard up, but moments like this reminded me how much she trusted me.
Her breath hitched as my hand slid higher, the fabric of her skirt rising with it. I leaned in, pressing a kiss to the corner of her lips before trailing down to her jawline.
"Heeseung," she whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of anticipation and nerves.
I paused, pulling back just enough to meet her gaze. Her eyes were wide, her cheeks flushed, and I could see the conflict warring within her.
Before either of us could say another word, a sharp knock on the door shattered the moment.
"Sir, your 2 PM meeting is waiting," came the muffled voice from outside.
Ari stiffened, her eyes darting toward the door as if she expected someone to walk in at any second.
"Relax," I whispered, my hands still firmly on her thighs. "They can wait."
But Ari was already moving, sliding off my lap and smoothing down her skirt with shaky hands. I watched her with a smirk, leaning back in my chair as if nothing had happened.
"This isn't over," I said, my voice low enough that only she could hear.
She shot me a look, half-annoyed, half-flustered, before grabbing the files and hurrying toward the door.
As she reached for the handle, I couldn't resist adding, "Doll, don't forget to reschedule that investor call."
She froze for a moment, her hand tightening on the door handle before glancing back at me. The look she gave me was a promise, one that sent a thrill of anticipation through me.
The game was far from over, and we both knew it.
