I walked down the halls of the large place that I was expected to call home. It was anything but, with walls that looked molded, high ceilings that were dusty, and sulking kids everywhere wondering when a better life was coming.
Mine, thankfully, was coming today. I followed Maria, my foster mother down the hallway and down the stairs. She was the only kind person here, and most of my nights were spent talking with her about things in the news.
When she told me I was being adopted by a single father I was both overly joyed, and overly sad. I didn't want a replacement for my parents, and leaving Maria behind meant leaving the only thing I've ever known for the past four years behind.
"Emily, I want you to write to us." She smiled, right before we made our way in the room. I nodded, pulling her into a bone crushing hug. "Who am I going to watch the news with now?" She wondered with a small chuckle.
" Richard likes the news." I suggested the tall freckled kid that's room was just four down from mine. He was shy, never really talked.
" Yeah, well." She said, wiping a few tears out of her face. "Have a great life Emily, you're going to do a lot of amazing things." She stated, smiling at me.
"Thank you Maria, I'm really going to miss you." I stated, hugging her again.
"Let's go meet your new father." She cheered, opening the door to reveal a man. His back was turned away from us as he sat at Maria's desk. He turned with a smile on his face, he looked friendly. His dark hair was parted down the middle and he wore a plain black shirt. He extended his hand toward Maria's and she pleasantly shook it.
"You must be Emily." He gushed with a smile.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Cowell." I said, taking his hand. I think I recalled his name correctly, I've read all about him. He was a high ranked music producer who lived in London. Apparently, he was taking me there.
"It's nice meeting you Emily, please call me Simon." He said, pulling me into a hug. I obliged and hugged my new guardian. It would be a hard adjustment calling him my father, so for now I would stick with Simon.
"Alright, let's get to signing papers shall we?" He clapped his hands together a smile never leaving his face.
"Mr. Cowell I understand that you will also be having guests at you home for a few more weeks am I right?" She asked, and I almost giggled at how professional Maria sounded right now.
"Exactly, they will be staying in my home until further notice." He nodded.
"Why is that?" She asked, her glasses falling onto the bridge of her nose.
"I have a very busy life, and I intend to make Emily feel completely comfortable with her living environment. Therefore, I have brought them to stay to show her around the city and hopefully restrain from making her feel lonely while I'm away." He explained.
"How long will you be gone?" She asked.
"Off and on for two months at the most, but my goal is to come home at any chance I get." He said.
" Alright, as long as this sounds okay to Emily then I don't see a problem in it, as long as you realize that Emily is your responsibility now, and is to be your number one priority." She warned.
"Agreed." He nodded his head.

" Come, we have a long flight ahead of us." He smiled, as we walked out of the building. I looked in front of us and a limozine was pulled out in front of the entrance.
"Is this for us?" I asked in star struck.
"Yes." He chuckled, opening the door for me and taking my bag. A man came out of the front and took the bag, setting it in the trunk before making his way back into the driver's seat. Soon we were taking off and I was seated comfortably on a plane.
