I take a deep breath and glance back toward the door I've just come from. The conversation still echoes in my ears. I feel a wave of unease flood over me. With my heart racing, I decide to take a step back, my mind torn between the desire to explore and the fear of what I might discover.I take a deep breath, squaring my shoulders. I can't just walk away. I need to find something, anything, to explain the mystery behind this place and my father's involvement. Therefore I make up my mind..
I'm going to search this farmhouse, no matter what.
Setting the tray carefully on the table outside the kitchen, I straighten and glance around. My heart pounds as I walk toward the hall, each step calculated.
The cold marble pillar presses against my back as I hide behind it, peeking out cautiously. Only a handful of guests are here so far, which means I have maybe twenty or thirty minutes to explore before the place gets too crowded.
I scan the hall, quickly assessing the guards. Four are stationed at the main gate, standing stiff as they monitor the guests walking in. Inside, eight towering marble pillars stretch across the hall, each with a guard standing watch. My attention shifts to a group of women—eight or nine of them—each carrying large backpacks. They don't look like guests. Two guards walk beside them, leading them up the grand staircase and pointing the way.
What's up there?
Curiosity burns in my chest, urging me to follow. My eyes dart back to the guards.
Timing is everything. When their backs are turned, I slip through the crowd, keeping my movements subtle and my head low. I make it to the base of the stairs, my pulse thundering as I glance over my shoulder one last time.
I climb the steps quietly, each creak of the wood making me hold my breath. When I reach the top, I pause, taking in the long corridor ahead. Rows of identical doors line both sides, stretching farther than I expected.
Yeh ek farmhouse hai? Uhh... kisse hotel se kam nahi hai!
( This isn't a farmhouse. It's a damn hotel! )
The thought unsettles me, but I force myself to focus. Counting as I walk, I note the number of rooms—fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. The place feels endless, and I don't even know where to begin.
Then I hear it, voices. Faint but unmistakable, somewhere farther down the hall. My breath catches as I creep closer, pressing myself against the wall. Peering around the corner, I see them, the women from earlier.
The guards are dividing them into groups, ushering three women into one room, then three more into another. My brows knit together as I watch, unease crawling up my spine. What is happening here?
