XX - Confession

"So that's what happened" Mariana mumbled, looking up at Tristan as he looked back down at her solemnly. Tristan thought to himself that she knew now, there was no going back. She knew Kaine was a murderer, was some sort of crazy child who was just waiting for any opportunity to strike down his next opponent. Tristan knew what would happen next, she would get far too scared of Kaine or feel an unbearable pain looking at him. I mean how could anyone even think of staying with someone like Kaine? They all had seen the corpse, the destruction of the body, he was covered in blood, and he wasn't showing any emotion. But Bea was furious, why wouldn't she Bea, mana went into creating that imp, and she had to acquire a lost soul which was a task by itself. Could he just not deal with one measly imp? Its job was to drive her son crazy and make him truly hate himself and the imp, it was a great idea but he just had to ruin it.

Maybe Tristan should've kept his mouth shut or maybe it's not too late to dismiss it as a joke-

"Well, that doesn't matter" she declared and Tristan's head snapped down at her. "Wait sorry that sounds terrible" She immediately waved her hands in front of her, her cheeks flushing. She thought that she sounded selfish. Tristan was shocked, with no morbid reaction or fear. Especially from someone her size. Who exactly was this mermaid?

"What I'm trying to say is I don't care about his past mistakes, and he was probably scared, and it was self-defence. I'm not saying murder is okay but I know Kaine isn't the type to just kill someone, he had a reason I know it. It's my Kaine we're talking about" she explained, her fins flaring as she thought about her boyfriend and future husband. Tristan just stared down at her in shock, how wasn't she scared? Could it be some form of processing? Or shock perhaps?

"NOW TAKE ME BACK TO THE OCEAN I NEED TO GET READY TO SEE KAINE TOMORROW" she demanded, looking at Tristan with a pout and thrashing at the hand below her. Tristan was speechless for once, she was amazing. So that's why he took her directly to the water again and knelt, letting her slide off of his hand and place land in the water with a gentle splash. "Uh, sorry for taking you without permission" he mumbled, looking at her, her light blue eyes looked into his grey ones.

"It's okay" she grinned, stretching in the water and looking up as he walked away slowly. That's when she spoke.

"AND TRISTAN" she started, took a deep breath and continued "YOU WERENT BEING SELFISH AND I DON'T THINK KAINE EVER HATED YOU" she yelled waving, then dove, not waiting to see his reaction. Little did she know, Tristan cried for the first time in a while, a single tear rolled down his cheeks as he made his way back home.

The next day.

Mariana had been waiting and waiting but Kaine didn't show up. She made multiple sea paper stars, cards, and homemade mermaid treats just for him and it felt like she had been stood up, just like how she felt on their first date when Kaine was late. After that, he always made sure to come as early as possible, and she was happy for that. That's when she heard frantic running and his head turned around to see a frantic giant running across the beach. It was Forrest, the eldest of the twins and he was panting while yelling:

"SEA PRINCESS WHERE ARE YOU" while running, that was until he stopped, catching a glimpse of Mariana. A look of relief spread across his face as he knelt to his tiny future daughter-in-law. She was only three years older than him, but they acted so differently. He wasn't mature yet, still a young boy. He would be acting more mature as he gained more responsibilities but now he and his best friend, his brother, were living the life of the ideal child, not caring about anyone. He held his meticulously crafted bucket and extended it towards her. "PLEASE MISS SEA PRINCESS LET ME TAKE YOU TO SAVE AQUA"

Meanwhile

"HOW DO I EVEN BRING IT UP TO HER" Kaine yelled, pacing his room with his youngest brother sitting on his bed, looking at Kaine with fear. It was a normal morning, aqua was spending the day with his twin doing regular things, after trying to sacrifice Kaine's future wife to him for a meal, they hadn't talked to their older brother as usual. But that's when they were walking past Kaine's room, staying quiet to avoid their brother's anger for making too much noise. But when Kaine's door opened as they walked past, two footsteps were heard and Aqua's muffled screams filled the halls. Kaine, in all his glory, had willingly touched his brother for the first time and was now dragging him into the darkness of Kaine's room, his mouth was covered by Kaine's hand, and his other hand was used to lift him by the back of his collar into his room. It was a scene out of a horror movie. But now kaies brother was sitting on his bed, still freaked out his brother touched him.
