-Enough For You-

Buck stared at the girl who stood in his doorway. There was mascara rubbed around her eyes, obvious signs of her crying. And something Buck had very little experience with.

"Can I stay here tonight?" She asked in a weak voice. She rubbed her eyes again, the black stain getting worse.

"Come inside." He said, practically dragging her into his small apartment. "Maisie, what happened?"

Maisie ran a hand through her hair, her eyes scanning the apartment. She couldn't speak, afraid that if she says it, it really is happening. Instead she just shook her head and sat down on the couch, tears threatening to spill again.

Buck knew he was out of his depth. He didn't know how to deal with any girls, much less a crying teenage girl who shows up at his apartment in the middle of the night. He kneeled down in front of the girl, his eyes looking into hers.

"Did something happen? Are you hurt?" All he received in response was a shake of her head, hair falling in front of her face. "Was it your parents? The kids at school?"

He still received no verbal response, only very clear signs of distress. Maisie just kept shaking her head, tears running down her cheeks. Buck sighed, not knowing what he could do.

He looked the girl in the eyes and spoke calmly. "Maisie, I want to help you, but you have to tell me what happened? Is there anyone I can call?"

"Don't you get it!" She yelled, surprising Buck. "There's no one you can call. I don't have anyone. I'm alone. I'm always alone." She cried, sobs now choking her up.

Buck watched her, surprised at the outburst. But most of all, he just felt sad. He hated that she felt like this. That she lived like this. And that he didn't think there was anything he could do.

When Maisie finally regained control of herself and calmed her tears, she gave her eyes a final rub and pushed her hair behind her ears so she could look Buck in the eyes. She was hesitant as she softly told him, "They don't want me." She didn't need to say anything else because Buck understood it now. "They don't want to adopt me."

"Maisie, I'm so sorry." He told her. He wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to say to someone in this situation. He was completely making it up as he went. "So...they're sending you back to foster care?"

When she shook her head Buck grew even more confused. "They think sending me back so soon would look bad for them. They're gonna keep me until they can get a kid they actually want."

"Shit." Buck said, not even meaning to speak it out loud. But it actually earned a small smile from Maisie. "Look, of course you can stay here, but are they gonna-"
