The Reactions

As the text began, the room filled with the assembled groups of Ennead gods and Trash of the Count’s Family (TotCF) characters. Everyone blinked, processing the words.

Cale Henituse sighed heavily as he sipped his tea, glaring at the empty chair across the table. He knew the peace wouldn’t last. It never did when he was involved.

Horus seeing this said, “This Cale reminds me of Seth. Always surrounded by chaos.”

Seth being angry at the comparison to a human angrily said, “Excuse me?” He crossed his arms and glared at his nephew. “I am the chaos.”

Alberu was smirking after hearing that, “I can’t argue with that comparison, though it seems Cale has perfected the art of suffering.”

Rosalyn chuckled and replied, “Cale always does have that look of impending doom. It’s part of his charm.”

Curiously Raon asked, “Human, is that what you think before I enter the room?”

Cale just groaned in annoyance.

“Cale-nim, he’ll appear soon,” Cage said beside him, barely containing her amused grin. She stirred her tea leisurely, her sharp eyes flicking to the seat Cale was so intently glaring at.

Cage laughed loudly, “Hah! I sound so calm. It’s because I know exactly what’s about to happen.”

Nephthys smiling at the girl whispered, “She seems quite entertained. She’s like me when I watch over Seth.”

Choi Han muttered in shock, “It’s rare to see someone take this kind of situation so lightly. Cage seems truly fearless.”

Cage was gleeful because of the compliment, in confidence she said.“You have no idea.”

Just as the words left his mouth, a puff of black smoke filled the air, swirling with streaks of gold. The oppressive yet somehow comforting aura of death filled the room, making Cage’s lips twitch into a smirk while Cale groaned.

Isis signed, “Anubis, this entrance is very much like you.”

Anubis looked at her with a frown, “What? I’m not nearly as flashy.”

Eruhaben: “Comforting, oppressive, and dramatic… Sounds like your older self, Cale.”
Cale: “Don’t compare me to him.”

“Children!” a playful voice echoed, almost sing-song. “Your favorite parent has arrived!”

Ra frowned finding that tone of voice unbefiting of a god, “How unbefitting of a god to behave this way.”

GoD who went unnoticed by the others teased Ra by saying, “Ra, don’t pretend you’re any less dramatic.”

Seth cackles, “Is this the ‘future you,’ Anubis? Why does he sound like a child?”

Anubis quickly replied, “I wouldn’t act like this. Would I?”

Cale deadpans,“He gets worse.”

Cage agreed, “Much worse.”

“You’re late,” Cale said flatly, not even looking up.

Alberu smiles innocently, "This is peak Cale.”

Rosalyn laughs, “He always says what we’re all thinking.”

Choi Han looks at her and asks, "Even if it’s to a god?”

GoD gasped, placing a hand on his chest as if Cale had mortally wounded him. “Late? Child, I am never late. I arrive exactly when I mean to.”

Horus smirks at the excuse his half brother used, “Classic divine excuse. Even Ra has used it.”

Ra's offended quickly disagrees, “I have never—”

Nephthys cuts in, “You absolutely have.”

Raon makes a surprising comment saying, “This god of death seems fun. Does he also give you cookies, human?”

“Of course, you are,” GoD said, reaching out to pinch Cale’s cheek, much to the redhead’s horror. “You’re my child. Look how much trouble you’ve caused under my name. Truly, you’re a spitting image of me in my youth!”

Anubis was muttering, “I don’t pinch cheeks. I wouldn’t.”

Cage disagrees, “Oh, you absolutely would.”

Seth while grinning says, “I like this god of death. He has taste.”

Cale signs in defeat, “Why does everyone enjoy my suffering?”

GoD ignored him again and shifted his focus to Cage. “And you, my dear child. How’s my most faithful servant doing? Have you been using your powers responsibly? Bringing balance to the world?”

Cage gets a disgusted look on her face, “He makes it sound like I cause as much trouble as Cale. I don’t.”

Rosalyn smiles, “Debatable.”

Isis says to Nephthys, “It seems even gods can play favorites.”

“I don’t stir up trouble.”
“Liar,” Cage and GoD said in unison, both smirking.

Alberu while smirking say, “That’s what I say every time you deny it, Cale.”

Cale scowls, "You’re not helping.”

Raon laughs, “The human does stir up trouble. It’s one of his specialties."

Eruhaben signs, "Stirring trouble, attracting gods, faking death—he truly has many talents.”

“Oh, come now. Don’t be like that!” GoD called after him, laughing as Cale stormed out of the room.

Seth is laughing saying, “I can’t believe you walked out on him. He’s your parent!”

Cale protests, “He’s not my parent!”

Anubis whispers to GoD, “This isn’t how a god of death should behave!”

GoD grinning to his past self says, “You’ll understand one day.”

Once the redhead was gone, GoD turned to Cage, his golden eyes twinkling. “He’s such a delight, isn’t he?”

Isis' teeth grinded against each other, “Delight isn’t the word I’d use.”

Rosalyn smiles, “It fits perfectly.”

Cale cries out, “Why are you all agreeing with him?”

By the end of the reading, both groups were laughing at Cale’s expense while he looked ready to flee the room. Anubis, meanwhile, sat quietly, reflecting on the odd yet playful behavior of his future self. “If that’s me in the future… maybe I should practice being less awkward now.”
