| Aur Bas, Ho Gaya |

It was love at first sight for Akhil Kumar.

Call him delusional, call him stupid, he hardly gives a fuck. He doesn't know how else to explain the rise in his heartbeats at the thought of-fuck, he didn't even get to know her name except Sen. All thanks to Anchal Gupta, he grumbled inwardly, shuffling through a case file. He couldn't curse that annoying woman even if he wanted to, for she saved his brother's life.

Akhil shuddered.

He clearly remembers the day like it was yesterday. He had been sitting on this same chair, stressing over work, when he recieved a call from Srishti. Her usual chirpy voice which always warmed his heart, was full of panic as she managed to sputter about the accident to him. He was alarmed but didn't fret over it much. Varshith was a tough guy and would be okay, it must be a small accident and maybe Srishti was worried about nothing, he had told himself while he left for the hospital. But the green lights of the OT were mocking him, as he had heard Varshith's parents about the gravity of the situation.

Mar jaa phir.

He had said those cruel words to his brother that day. Oh, what a terrible human he was. Varshith was his only family and to say such words to a person like that. He had sat down on the stairs somewhere he didn't remember walking, sobbing quitely in the cradle of his palms.

And then he had heard her. "Are you okay?" A sweet, melodious voice laced with concern had asked him. He had stopped sobbing and looked up at the owner of those voice and for a moment, he had thought everything was okay. Curly hair, olive skin tone, wide-brown eyes, which when met his teary ones, he had forgotten to breath and he was sure she did too.

She had offered him a water bottle, jade green in color. Akhil was humoured. She sure loved green, considering her shirt was a dark shade of green too. The water bottle now was kept safely in his cabinet, by the way. She had sat beside him on the steps, albeit hesitantly, while he drank water to calm himself down. "Thanks," he had muttered. "It's fine," she had said, with a soft smile.

"I said something I shouldn't have, and now it happened." Akhil couldn't help but blurt, but felt stupid right away. What would she think of him?

"We all say things we don't mean sometimes. What matters is that you recognize it. Don't be too hard on yourself. You're allowed to make mistakes, and you can always make things right." She had gently said, proving him wrong.

"But what if I don't get the chance to?" He had voiced out his biggest fear at that moment. He was an extrovert but never had he thought that he will be sharing his troubles with a literal stranger. Perhaps that made it easy.

"I know it's hard when you don't have the chance to make things right in person. But sometimes, even if we can't fix things immediately, taking the time to reflect and grow from it is still an important step. You're doing your best, and that's enough. If it's meant to be, there will be another chance, sometimes in unexpected ways." She had mumbled gently and in the next moment he had recieved a message from Srishti that the surgery was successful and Varshith was out of danger.
