I took a deep breath as I entered Pinewood High.
It smells nice here, I thought happily. Her old school did not smell nice.
I decided to put this down in my little notebook of research.
Before we all parted to different schools, I had given the girls a list of things to do, or experiments, as I called them.
I had also reminded them to write down their observations.
So that is what I'm gonna do, I thought with a smile, because I love research and lists and... Just organized things in general!
As I quickly scribbled down some things about the school that I noticed.
The list ended up like this:
First impressions:
-smells nice here
-walls are kind of cracked, some paint peeling
-walls are a light green color
-some flower patches outsideWhen I was satisfied with my list, I grabbed my schedule, which had my locker combination on it.
My backpack was weighing me down, and I didn't want it giving me back pains or anything, so I hurried over to my locker.
2361, 2361, I chanted in my head, trying to remember my locker number.
"Hey, new girl!" A boyish voice called to me.
I turned around to see who it was, curious at who would notice me at this early stage.
"You're missing your locker," he explains, trying to hold back a laugh.
My cheeks flush red. I had already embarrassed myself in front of the boy who seemed to be my locker buddy.
"Thanks!" I tell him, trying to get past the fact that I had just talked to myself and missed my locker.
He gives a genuine smile, making my heart melt.
No falling in love! I tell myself sternly.
"I'm Matt, by the way," he introduced.
"Oh, sorry! I'm Ashley," I told him, embarrassed that I hadn't said so already.
"I can show you around the school," Matt shrugged, like it was no big deal.
"I would love that!" I squealed excitedly.
He chuckled and waited for me to finish putting my stuff in my locker.
"What's your home room?" Matt asks me.
"It's..." I say, glancing down at the schedule, "Mr. Jackson?"
"Oh, cool!" He says excitedly, "I'm in that home room!"
I smile as he leads me to home room, talking about himself all the way.
I put 'friendly people-so far' on the first impressions list.
_____
I quickly erased the so far from my list in home room.
The teacher was great and the boys welcomed me into their conversation.
"Are you thinking of doing any sports?" A guy named Jason asked me.
"Yeah, I'll probably do the track team," I reply, kind of excited about it.
"Me too! Tryouts are this Friday for the team, do you want to come with?" Another one of Matt's friends, Damion, says.
I smile and nod in response, receiving one in return.
Mr. Jackson leans in to join our conversation to say, "I'm pretty good friends with the coach, I can get a good word in for ya."
I love this school!
____
Unfortunately, neither Jason, Matt, or Damion had first period with me, but I would meet Jason at second period science.
Matt brought me to my first class, math.
"Thanks!" I tell him, waving as he walked to his class.
He waved back with a smile, before turning around to fast walk through the hallways.
During math class, the teacher basically just introduced herself and the class, giving us a free period after.
I looked down at my list, seeing 'become friends with all social groups.'
I figured that was the best place to start, and I walked over to what looked like the popular people.
They're always the ones dressed like Barbie dolls. Tons of makeup, see through shirts, and mini skirts.
To get them to notice me, I flirted with one of the popular guys.
While I am not one of the smoothest people I know, I'm not blind to my okay looks.
This guy was eating it up and when class ended he asked for my number.
I told him, "Maybe later," and watched him leave the room.
The popular girls were staring at me in disbelief, and that's how I know I've gotten into their group.
This is gonna be fun, I giggle to myself as they approach me.
