Chapter 18

Finally, it was the final day of the selection exam.

It was a battle among members of Team 6, 7, and 8. Each team had two members participating in the final round. The members of Team 9, 10, and others had been eliminated. They were watching from the spectators area along with the jounin-sensei and hokage himself.

On the arena, Kushida and Hinata were already facing each other. Anko had moved to the side just a few seconds ago, allowing the two fighters to attack each other. However, none made a move.

For Hinata, the reason was obvious. She literally looked down on her opponent. With her byakugan, trapping her in normal genjutsu was the same as robbing a man in front of a bunch of polices. There was no way she would not notice it.

And for Kushida, the reason was also obvious. As a genjutsu specialist, her worst opponent was either an Uchiha or a Hyuuga. Genjutsu worked by injecting chakra to disturb one's mind. In another word, there was no way for her to attack her opponent off guard.

"If you are not going to attack in thirty seconds, Kushida-san, I'll be the one to attack." Hinata said as she activated her byakugan.

Kushida didn't react to her opponent's cheap provocation. Taking a deep breath, she pulled out a kunai from her ninja bag. It was true that she had no way to catch Hinata off guard with genjutsu, but it didn't mean her opponent was immune to genjutsu.

Throwing the kunai, Kushida immediately formed a handseal. The kunai immediately multiplied into a few dozens.

However, unlike a normal [Shuriken Kage Bunshin], it was merely [Shuriken Bunshin]. All those kunais were nothing but illusion.

Hinata lightly tilted her head to the left, narrowly avoiding the piercing kunai while completely ignoring the fake ones.

It was then Kushida breathed out a few water bullets out of her mouth.

She had hoped her previous attack would distract her opponent even a little. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Hinata used her fingers (covered by lightning chakra) to pierce through and crush the water bullets with ease. The bullets were not fast enough.

"Its nowhere near as fast as the true water bullets jutsu of Kirigakure. You have not perfected it yet, have you?" questioned Hinata.

It was as Hinata said. Kushida had not mastered that jutsu to perfection. A perfect water bullets jutsu would be faster than true bullet from her old world.

Since Kushida's ninjutsu and genjutsu were not enough, what was left was taijutsu. However, Kushida had no plan to engage a Hyuuga in taijutsu. It was a suicide, no different than asking an Uchiha to have a genjutsu duel. A total stupidity.

And so, after her attempts ended up in failure, she knew there was no hope. "I surrender," announced the young kunoichi, raising both her hands up in a signature of giving up.

With Kushida admitting her defeat, Anko immediately declared Hinata's victory. Hearing that, Hinata turned around and left the arena. She climbed the stair without saying anything to her opponent. The result was as expected.

Kushida quickly approached the heiress of Hyuuga clan, matched their steps, and offered her hand for a handshake. "You are definitely the strongest kunoichi of our generation, Hinata-san," she said after the Hyuuga shook her hand, praising her.

And, before Hinata could give a response, Kushida whispered: "Have you ever heard of Sakayanagi Arisu, Hinata-san?"

Kushida made sure her eyes didn't leave the Hyuuga even for a mere second. Her curiosity got the better of her. Kushida was convinced that the girl had the soul of a certain genius from her highschool. She didn't believe she was wrong.
