I walked into the big room filled with the smell of perfume and rich food. I looked around and saw a few guys looking at me, their faces growing redder. I turned and bumped into Liz, Patti and Maka.

My face was hot with a blush and they grinned at me. "I think this dress is too-"

"You look hot." Liz said, touching my nose with her finger. "Now go find those boys~!" she said. She turned me around and pushed me forward into the crowd of people dancing to the slightly faster music. They had turned down the lights, neon replacing them. I hadn't known that it would've been this kind of party, with Lord Death dancing in the corner.

I got swept up in the dancing for a while, feeling happy and excited. I wonder if there was going to be any slow songs? I prefer those.

"Hello everyone!" a voice said through a loud speaker when the song that we had been dancing to ended. We all turned and looked at the DJ who was illuminated by bright red neon lights. He was grinning with his expensive-looking headphones over one ear. He pulled them off and spoke into the mic with a grin. "I think we'll slow it down a bit and do a snow ball dance." He said.

I looked around, a little confused. People started moving around, and I stood there, not knowing what to do. I had never been to any dances in middle school. But luckily for me, the DJ explained. "Lets have all the girls on the left and the boys on the right!" he said.

I sighed, relieved, and walked to the left side of the room with all the other girls. The DJ walked to the middle of the room with his mic, looking around at all of us, the younger man grinning. "Do we have a brave person to start?" he asked.

I heard Black Star starting to yell that he would go first, then sound shouting, and Kid, and there was some laughing. I blushed like crazy and moved to a place where I was hidden, but could still see the dance floor.

"A brave boy, girl?" the DJ said, looking at us. "Come on guys!" he said.

There was a shuffle on the girl's side of the room, and I strained to see the girl walking forward to the DJ. He was grinning while looking at the auburn haired girl in the short white dress cocktail dress. "What's your name, brave contester?" the DJ asked.

"Asuka." The girl said into the mic, and I froze for a second. Asuka? They had let her come?

"Okay, Asuka! When I start the music, you can choose a lucky boy to dance!" he said turning and running up to his stage-like area. There was a look on her face like she knew something else that no one else did, and I questioned it for a second, then brushed it off.

The DJ messed with his side board for a moment, then a song started playing. It was a slow, and a woman was singing in it, and it took me to recognize it; Samson by Regina Spektor. There were a few happy cries from the girls, and I knew that they must love it.

Asuka stood in the middle, looking at the boys for a moment, some of them looking eager for her to pick them. She turned around and smiled at the girls, reaching out her hand to someone. I strained my neck as someone walked out. I saw her short black, strapless dress that was almost like Asuka's. I saw her bright blue hair and her pale skin and knew it was Mari.

They started dancing slowly to the music, everyone watching as the girls squealed, and some of the guys huffed with disappointment. I watched them, happy. When the song reached the chorus, Asuka leaned into Mari and kissed her slowly. Everyone started cheering as Mari wrapped her arms around Asuka's neck, happy tears falling down her cheeks.

There was clapping and the DJ told everyone else to start dancing as Asuka and Mari pulled back. I had my hands over my mouth, my happy smile showing through.

People started moving out into the dance floor, and I was approached by quite a few boys. I could see the three other ones (you should know who I'm talking about by now), and I decided to play hard to get. I took the had of a blonde guy in a black suit, and he pulled me out into the crowd, some other guys grumbling.

After a moment, the DJ spoke. "Okay, now everyone switch partners!" he said. I looked around, and I saw soul striding to me. I reached my hand out as the blonde I had been dancing with. I walked closer to Soul, a smile on my face. I was just about five feet away from him, when Kid jumped out and tackled his legs, and Black Star hit him from the side. I was surprised, and laughed a little. I turned as my shoulder was tapped, and I turned to see another boy.

When the next time to switch came, the same thing happened, but this time, it was Kid who got tackled by the other two. The boy who asked me to dance laughed with me as the three started fighting, then stood and dispersed into the crowd.

And then Black Star was tackled. I wondered if I would get to dance with any of them.

After a few slow songs, I walked out onto one of the balconies, leaning on the edge and looking out at the brightly lit Death City. I smiled, feeling warmth in me even as a cool breeze floated out and tickled my skin. I had come far.

"I finally caught you alone." A deep voice said, and I turned to see Soul leaning on the stone ledge, a few feet from me. I turned to him, seeing his slightly rumpled suit. He walked forward, glancing inside, then up to the roof. "We should have time before those two find us." He said.

I smiled. "If you guys wouldn't fight I could-" I started, but was cut off by his lips gently crushing mine. I was surprised, and then rested my hands on his chest and closed my eyes. His hands moved around my waist, and he held me. He smelled warm, and like he had just gotten back from a concert. I pulled back, looking into his beautiful red eyes. He smiled at me. The sound of a slow song filtered out onto the balcony, and he grinned. "Will you dance with me?" he asked.

I nodded, and we started dancing slowly. No one bothered us through the whole song. At the end, I smiled up at him. After a moment of looking into his eyes, I drew back. "I can't do this to you guys." I said. I turned away from him and looked back over Death City.

"What, (Y/n)?" He asked, walking to me.

I looked up at him. "I need to choose. I'm just screwing with your hearts." I said, turning and walking back into the dance area. I was going to have to choose now... but... who?

I looked around for one of the other two, wanting to tell them I was going to choose soon. I spotted Kid and started walking to him as fast as I could in my heels. Damned heels. Slow music was still playing, and I smiled as I reached Kid, and he saw me. He took my hands, and looking into my eyes with his beautiful golden eyes. "Will you dance with me, (y/n)?" he asked.

I smiled, taking his other offered hand. "Of course."
