At a mall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania ~ 11:00AM
“Hey guys?” Rydel called out to her best friend, Ellington, and brothers, Rocky and Ross. They had a free day from the LOUD tour so they decided to spend it at the mall.
Ellington turned around and looked at the girl who was like a sister to him. “What’s up?” he asked, lifting up his green sunglasses.
“I’m gonna run to Victoria’s Secret real quick, okay? I’ll meet you guys in the food court?” she clarified, taking a step towards her favorite store filled with pink things.
As soon as they heard “Victoria’s”, Rocky and Ross were speedily walking away. They had no desire to hear any more. Ratliff just chuckled before saying “Yeah. That’s cool, Dell. See you in a few.” And with that, he walked off to find his friends.
A little while later, Rydel walked into the food court scanning the tables for her brothers. She spied Ratliff staring intently at his phone and walked over.
“Who are you talking to?” she asked, sitting in the seat across from him.
“Kelly.” he replied with a smile. “She’s gonna call when she gets home from work.”
“Awe, awesome!” Rydel gushed. She loved Kelly and she thought they were perfect for each other. “Where are the other two?” she asked, noticing her brothers’ absence and wondering if she should go and look for them before they caused some sort of trouble. Momma Lynch would have a fit if any of them got in trouble on tour.
“They decided to go to Hollister real quick. They’ll be back soon.” he replied, taking a drink of his strawberry-banana smoothie.
All of a sudden his phone started vibrating on the table, making Rydel jump about a foot in the air. He picked it up and saw the picture of them on Christmas putting the tree topper on along with Kelly’s name appear. He smiled widely before pressing “Answer.” Putting the phone up to his ear, he said “Hello?”
“Hey babe!” came Kelly’s happy voice.
“Put her on speaker.” Rydel stage whispered. “Put her on speaker!”
Ratliff pulled the phone away from his face so Rydel could talk.
“Hey Kelly!” she yelled.
“Oh my gosh! Hey Rydel! How are you?!” she back.
“Good!” she said. “Just hanging out in the food court with Ell for our free day.” She explained, leaning closer to the phone.
“Oooh! That sounds fun!” she exclaimed. “I wish I could be there.” she said in a sad voice.
“I know.” Rydel started, matching her sad tone. “I wish you were here too.”
“Aww, sad face.” Ratliff said frowning.
“I know!” Rydel agreed.
“Just a little bit longer.” he said, reassuring all three of them. “We’ll be home before you know it!”
“I know, that’s what’s getting me through.” Kelly said, a smile back in her voice.
“Okay, I’m gonna go get a smoothie, I’ll be back in a sec.” Rydel said.
“Alright.” Ratliff acknowledged. He took Kelly off speaker phone and said, “So how was work?”
“It was good. Pretty easy. Nothing too crazy or stressful, which is good.”
“Good!”
“Yeah. What about you guys? How’s Riker doing? Is he feeling better?” Riker had gotten sick from overworking himself a few days before and ever since Kelly found out, she had been really worried about him. They all had.
